Went back to the court house for 3 hours untill dark and left the stock coil on but slowed way down .Still in factory coin program and like it but may go back and hit same erea in ferrous 2 tone when I get a chance.Yes I scratched the quarte in the dark in some hard packed river gravel at 7".Half was only about 6" but in solid iron.95,96and 97 Indians.Any info on the bullet would be appreciated once again.Looks to be just over 50 cal. and is 1-1/16" OAL.The blob of lead looks like a round ball that has hit someone or something rather hard. Are any other E-Trac users getting a sore wrist/forearm?
Pretty ring tail.... E-trac ......gonna make a relic hunter out of you yet!
I guess we're the only 2 that have GOOD machines........ OR.... So easy a Caveman could use them...... and we're the last 2 Cave men.... LOL
I heard rumor that others are doing very well.......just do not want any more in their area !
I think i would be camped out on that site.....great potential for a gold coin or two!
Yes, the small coil 6DD is a killer .....I also have the Sunray 5 but have not ran it yet.... but looks like the 6DD is the strongest and looks to be deeper than a stock 8
I think the Sunray 5 will still be an asset when I wanna back the hammer down in heavy Trash with smaller footprint...
Tony over on MLO posted his preferences and it is interesting.... Great bunch over there and they are blue bloods in their hunting techniques open screen mostly just the bottom right hand corner blacked out....
I have a 4.5 x 7" EXcelerator Searchcoil and will try it at the court house When I get the time.It is very light and quiet and seems to get good depth on SE ,Ray.
PS your mention of gold coins has got me to thinking about a gold program. My dad found a $10 gold piece several years ago that was in au condition.
I think there are many good E-Trac out there being used, maybe they are spending the time finding the good targets and not posting it yet. They just want to get over the area before others get a E Trac.
A local guy plus myself have the E-Trac and we are both very impressed with what this detector can do. We are using the factory coin programs and he turns down the threshold as it is too loud for him, I am just fine with the threshold the way it is. I use mine mostly in factory settings, but up my sensitivity to a +3 in auto and run in difficult ground and high trash with fast recovery.
My Friend was at a well worked fairgrounds last weekend to see what it could do as the last 2 times he was there with the EX II he only got new coins. This time he got 3 silver Rosie's, 3 mercs, a V Nickle and 23 Wheaties plus a Barber quarter, so he is very impressed with the E-Trac. This is a trashy are and he still was getting 8-12 inches on these coins. I been using the X-8 coil on mine for some of the older sites that are trashy and been very impressed what I can do with this detector. I am digging many nice coins in the areas I worked hard before and gave up on as they seem to lock on good if a good target. Many of the iffy ones that I have dug have been some very deep nails that bounces around a bit, but just got to check them out as they are just too iffy. I have been 12 inches for a rusty nail and starting to realize I only got one penny that was iffy while all the others sounded real good and locked on nice, so it seems the E-Trac will lock on to good targets and those that are iffy have been iron falsing.
Both of us are very impressed with the E-Trac, but cant say we are getting deeper finds, but the good ones seem to lock on better and we can swing the coil faster also.
I bet by next year and more get used to the E-trac we are going to see some great finds in well worked areas as some are seeing already in the post we have here.
I am having almost the exact same experience with mine and agree that a year from now there will be many great finds acumilated with the Etracs,Ray.
PS. It is sure good to see other positive posts starting because I was starting to worry that some might not believe mine and I guess I am to self consious maybe.
Nice finds, theres an early 1800's school house near me that I tried to detect with the stock 11 inch coil..Totally impossible, nulls and beeps everywhere...going to order a sunray x-5 coil and go back
Congratulations Ray-Mo your doing well with the Etrac. Gotta love that big silver. There really is no other machine like the Etrac for deep coins and relics. I own about 25 machines because I like to fiddle with them but If I want to go out and clean up the deep stuff I reach for the Etrac. I usually start a new site with my old Compass Gold Scanner Pro, this machine has no equal that I have ever run for wading through iron infested sites with a quickness. Then I come back with the Etrac for the slow deep search and clean up all the deepies. I use the F75 alot also it is a great deep machine but it is NOISEY as hell and after a couple hours of all those sounds I get jittery and unnerved. LOL
Once you "get" the Etrac it is a very simple machine to distinguish Quality deep targets from trash. I never dig nails or iron anymore like I did when I first started, it becomes very obvious what iron sounds like after awhile. Looks like you've learned all those tricks too. I enjoy reading your post.
Ray, yea I have a sore wrist out working with the E-Trac, I've been hunting for several years with other machines and the E-Trac has now made it exciting again. My finds have increased and what I mean is not quantity but older quality, deeper older coins that have been overlooked by a lot of other diggers (me included). I usually just read and respond to post but I'll start posting photo's of my finds. I understand you were at Tony's the other day would have liked to met up with you, take care Steve Russell, ashdigger....
Yep I had to try a Vision for myself. It is quite a machine but has not made me want to get rid of my E-Trac yet for shure. It has way more bells and whistles than I will ever need.
I know what you mean by older better finds with the E-Trac.When you get a good signal and the depth guage is over half way down you know another good find is going in the pouch most of the time and if it is a silver signal it just about never lies.
I need to get down your way and do some hunting sometime as I have just about E-Traced every thing to death around here,Ray.
I'm sure we can find a place to scratch around, we'll get DrBob to go with us I really like hunting with him. Anyway we'll see what this week brings out. take care..
