Yesterday Carol and i traveled the 20 miles through beautiful country to the closest small city in our area which is Port Alberni. The reason for going there was that they have a Walmart there and we needed items that would cost us much more in the local store.
Now i also have sympathy for those who see Wally World as a threat to local business and i agree, however, for folks who live very frugally on a small fixed pension it is very tough to stand on principle. Nuff of that.......
We browsed the appliance isle for quite a while, looking to treat ourselves to a new coffee maker as a Christmas indulgence. Lots of sales on but tough to decide.
Carol was sitting in her wheelchair and i was poring over some price tags when suddenly a pistol shot! I jumped and spun around looking for the shooter, as did a bunch of other peeps! Nothing.......I stood and anticipated the situation waiting for a panic and wondering what i would do with a wife in a wheelchair under the circumstances!
For a good 10 seconds there was silence as people looked around then mostly shrugged and went back to their shopping. Now that sound is unmistakable to a lifelong shooter/hunter. It was not a rifle or a shotgun, the sound was a handgun to me for sure and nothing like even a large item falling from a shelf. Then Carol said, it was my tire on my wheelchair. I looked down and sure enough one was pancaked!
Before we we left i had fired up my portable compressor and put extra air in the tires as the cold weather softens them some and it becomes hard to push. The max pressure on the tires says 55 PSI and i took them up to 50 so thought nothing of it but must have had a pinched tube or a weak spot.
I messed around examining the tire for a couple minutes, checking that it would still roll, it did so we kept browsing, all the while waiting for security to show up and i could explain the situation. Nothing! We finally went to the till after i had bought a new tube for the tire
I guess my point boils down to, what would have happened had that been in a large city or mall? We are still laughing about it but there are sober thoughts involved as well.
