The DeLeon obsolete ?

I read a few posts below about the DeLeon saying it was behind the times. This may be true, I haven't used the competitors TID models (except the ACE 300 and that turned out to be VERY much a toy), but I have found my very best items with the DeLeon. It will definately find the "stuff" with no problems. I found a US belt plate at around 12 inches and the signal blew my ears off. I realize this is a big target and 12 inches may not be great for something that size, but the point is, the machine finds the goods. The seperation range is sorely lacking, but if you dig anything that bounces at 95 you are going to find the neat stuff.

I "upgraded" to a Vaquero (I love the Tesoro warranty and weight) just because I feel I am missing too much relying on TID. I had a half baked notion to get the ACE 250, but common sense prevailed and told me a did not need another TID machine. Hopefully my year with the Vaquero will be even better than the year and a half I used the DeLeon.

:bouncy: Nice find, I like my Vaquero as well its a great little detector.( I just use the Tesoro thumb role on the disc knob to get an idea whats in the ground).

Take Care,

Appears to me that you are making some great finds with it. I still use my Tesoro Bandido II uMax which could be considered obsolete by many folks, but it works for me and that is what is important.

I have never used the Vaquero, but hear tell that it is deep seeking and has good target separation. Kelley (Texas) :)

... I went to a car show last month. There was a gorgeous '57 Chevy there. Obsolete? Yes. Desired by all who saw it? Definitely!

Tesoro could make one improvementto the DeLeon. Add a single turn GB control that functions in DISC mode. None of that 3 3/4 turn foolishness - thats a hold over from when all we knew were ten-turn controls for GB. A 300 degree, precision single turn control with a preset position would do nicely - after all, guess what the pre-set trimmer pot inside is? A single turn model!

But what works isnt always the deepest or the most advanced - which usually is equated to deepest. What works, works for you.

but I do think that it is behind the times. Like David said, there are some upgrades that they could make to it, that would make it worth the extra price that you pay for it. I hope they do, because I would like to get another Tesoro TID...but only if it comes with Ground Balance.

Sounds like to ground balance people got to you.

My guess is you'll return to the DeLeon before too long.

I appreciate all the Tesoro thumbs down stuff on this forum.

I plan to have all my competitors in my area come here and read these posts. I sure hope they believe them.

Well, got to clean a big bunch of nice relics and put another batch of coins in the olive oil.

Another day, another bunch of missed coins because I use an outdated DeLeon

Although it may mot be possible, i would like to see a manual ground balance and a high coin tone mod. I think with these mod's the Deleon would be a upper end ID machine.

Nah, the reason I got the Vaquero is because I was becoming too complacent with the TID indicator. Silver is easy to find, it's the relics that the TID isn't going to do you much good on. I recon I missed quite a bit of stuff because I thought it would be another pulltab, or a piece of iron or foil.

My plan is to keep the DeLeon for hunting in the parks and trashy areas for coins and the Vaquero where I expect to find some relics.

The DeLeon will not see small lead very well. I found a 0 gauge lead shot and was suprised to find that the DeLeon only saw it because it was just beneath the soil. It wouldn't see it much deeper that a inch or so.

come on out here to Oregon with your DeLeon. I'll take you to some of the swim beaches that I hit in the fall and winter. You wont get knees all afternoon, because you'll think every hot rock that lies about 2" down is a lovely ring. Maybe then you will see the value of ground balance.
