The DD coil and how it works..

Uncle Willy

New member
In this rough sketch you can see how the DD coil shoots its signal into the ground and why it detects as deep at either end as it does anywhere along the length of the coil and why it covers so much ground, even at peak depth. Since there is no receiving coil for pinpointing one can pinpoint off the tip of either end of the coil. Real deep targets will show up a little farther back from the tip.

These coils are designed for highly mineralized soil. If your soil isn't heavily mineralized a standard concentric coil of the sdame size will serve your purpose. Their only other advantage is more ground coverage per sweep. They don't discriminate nearly as well as a concentric and love bottlecaps, but they have their purpose.

So what are the differences between the 10x14" DD and the smaller 5x10 scorcher (for small gold nuggets). To use with GTI 2500

The 5x10 would be better for tiny nuggets as it throws a smaller, sharper, signal and gets into tighter places.
