The CZ 3-D

Catch66

New member
A neebie with a Hobby. And Have not Purchased a detector as yet.
Live in Montana dry arrid area. How does this Unit work on gold, and dryer sandy areas.
What coils will work best here.
Thanks for in info.
Chuck

CZ3D is designed to find older coins in older areas. There are better gold hunting detectors out there, if your primary goal is to get gold and lower conductive targets.

IMHO, any used fisher cz, like a cz5, cz3d, cz7a or cz70, woulkd fit your needs and let you see if the hobby is for you w/o costing you a lot of money. Like the other guy said, if you are going to primarily be looking for gold nuggets, then there are dedicated gold hunting detectors out there that would better fit your needs. a cz is more of a do it all detector and used for coin hunting, cache hunting, beaches, etc... but it will find gold nuggets if they are big enough and not real deep.
Remembedr to learn your machine and have fun out there. It's a great hobby that can pay you back. Bob.

Thanks for your Responses fellas.

Will these detectors detect other rocks with mineral deposits. Sapphires, Garnets ect.

I am getting close to retirement, Love the out doors and near a # old Homesteads. gold mining not to far
away either.
Any suggestions for a detector. I've been looking @ reviews of a # of differant brands
and even saw China made Fakes..
thanks
Chuck

A cz would make you a nice first detector as they have a lot of raw power right out of the box w/o having to tweak the set up much. and, they are built solidly and will last a long time if treated properly. I don't think you would regret it. and resale is good on them still also so if you didn't like them for some reason you wouldn't be out many $$$. good luck with you decision and HH. bob.

Having used CZ's every model ever made for over 20 years may be coil for coil as deep as any on the market today and certainly would be a nice choice for a newbie as they are user friendly, however if your serious about gold nugget hunting look into units made specifically for that phase of the hobby..

CZ's are great civil war bullet machines.

Any coil combo that will allow detection of Gold with Cz-3

CZ's hit well on jewerly size pices of gold, not well on tiny flakes. CZ's work well over a wide variety of conditions.

If I can share a brief comparision; my F75-LTD hit a sequin on the beach that took me a while to find since it kept dropping through the scoop. When I found the sequin it was all of about 1/10th inch in diameter and was plastic with a metalic coating to make it glitter. That thin metalic coating is what the F75 was hitting on. Even in all metal mode my CZ would not see it; heck, my pinpointer would not see that sequin. My CZ's have long ago paid for them selves with jewlry finds at beaches and parks, just not finding tiny stuff.

As noted in other replies, if you are going to be looking for gold nuggets and flakes, you may want to look at one of the detectors designed to find small gold, such as the Gold Bug. The more gold specific detectors will also find coins and relics.

Take a look at the Prospecting forum. See what detectors people posting to that forum use for gold.

If you want to try a CZ, get one and see how it works for you. I'd go with the 8 inch coil.
Cheers,
tvr

Been searching your correct gold separate from other forms of Treasure.
Any field experience with this machine.

fisher gold bug dp pro

I have not used a Gold Bug yet.

If you have not already gone to the Fisher Gold Bug/Teknetics G2 Forum, check it out. There is a lot of experience with that specific detector posting on that forum. It is at : http://www.findmall.com/list.php?80

A recent post on the Beach and Water / Scuba Dive Detecting Forum has a video showing a G2 (essentially the same as the Gold Bug) picking up small items in the sand, including a small clasp. That video is at: http://www.findmall.com/read.php?26,1984773

Good luck to you with the detector you decide on and welcome to the hobby! Metal detecting takes persistence, patience and work, but can be very rewarding!
Cheers,
tvr

To answer your question Chuck, no. Metal detectors only detect metals not minerals. You may have misunderstood something you read about a metal detector reacting to high mineralization, but that is not the same as detecting minerals. Hope this helps.

Gold Bug Pro is a very good machine for what you described as your hunting areas.
