Finally got the CTX out for an hour yesterday for a trial run and am impressed so far. Of course still need a lot more time to learn what this thing can do but it looks like it is going to be a winner.
Went to my local park which I rarely hunt anymore. I have hit this place hard over the years and the finds are so scarce now that I find the place boring. But it is a good place to test out new detectors or coils as i get a good gauge at their capabilities.
In this first short hunt I hit an area that I expected not to find anything. After about 20 minutes, got a signal that sounded pretty good (which was surprising) and read 4 inches deep. I could see using target trace the good hit but could also see a smear trail down into the iron section. Pinpointed it and dug out a chunk or iron. I knew after reading this forum that couldn't be my target so stuck the probe in the hole again and got another hit. This one turned out to be a wheatie.
What impressed me was how well the wheatie hit even though I missed it countless times with my Explorer and E-trac. Also, the CTX target trace worked as advertised. I knew there appeared to be a good and bad target there. And again, it was only 4 inches deep, well in range of almost any detector on the market and as heavily as this parks has been hunted, it was probably missed hundreds of times over the years. But, the CTX sniffed it out
