The CTX continues to impress me

We went camping and I got to do a little bit of hunting while there. I hit the same old parks that I have hunted a dozen times already but the CTX 3030 did a better job uncovering the targets under iron than previous detectors did. The 1885 seated is the best example of unmasking I have ever experienced and the two iron items were not more than an inch above the dime at 5 inches. A 47 Rosy, a silver wire ring with a green stone or glass, two IH's, 1888, 1905 and 9 wheats was about all of the old finds. The oddest find I have ever made has to be a clad rosy with the edge rolled on it. (above the silver) Fishing licenses are common at this river town, I have found many and this one is a 1972 trot line license.

Congrats Larry!!

Those are great finds especially that seated dime!!! Its in really good shape!!! Any mint mark?

I looked real hard for an S, but no such luck..............:ranting: It would have made it a $2600 dime instead of $30.

Nice finds again Larry, congrats on the seated. That was an amazing find with that much iron on top. What kind of audio and id were you getting, obviously it was good enough to cause you to dig, but was just curious.

congrats, Randy

Good question and I should have gone into more detail. The audio was good and it came up as 12-33, I thought it might be another IH. I also had the iron grunt and iron icon in the lower right. I was using Ferrous-Coin and pinpoint trace with a pretty much open screen (Larry's Pattern) in Combined Audio.

Great report Larry and perhaps the most amazing example of finding a coin below iron with the CTX that I have yet read. I'm adding this thread to my "coins above iron" thread!

Congrats,
Albert

That is mightly high praise, knowing your high standards. Thanks for making the post and sharing the pics. Just goes to show that when the CTX 3030 is in the hands of a skilled user, the old sites become new again. Congrats Larry. Nicely done. HH Randy

Great finds Larry I had a Indian that I dug that I couldn't even pinpoint because of so much junk in the hole with it but I was getting a 12.35 I dug a 10 inch plug 6 inches deep and there was a bottle cap 2 nails and a pull tab in the plug when I flip it over and the Indian was right in the middle of it.There was still more junk in the hole how i found it I don't know. And awesome find on the seated.

Yeah, the ole CTX 3030 is very sneaky indeed in heavy iron even with the11" coil. With more users and more time on the CTX we should really start to see the finds come in when it cools and the weeds die down.
Congrats on your finds Larry and thanks for sharing your story and machine readings.

congrats man the seated is sweet !

Awesome recovery Larry - makes you wonder just how many keepers are snuggled up close to bigger trash!?!

Impressive to pull that nice seated dime from under those two pieces of iron. Is that a cork screw? The license tag is quite nice too!

No Eric, it is a wire that has been wrapped around something round like a pipe and then wrapped back around itself. Yes, the fishing licences are neat finds and I have found quite a few net licences that go back to the 40's there as well. This was my first trot line licence, 50 hooks or less.

Thanks Larry! Those fishing licenses will make a wonderful display if framed I think! Really nice and unique finds they are.
If you do frame them please post a pic here.

Regards, Erik

I haven't thought about framing them, I grew up on the Mississippi and commercial fished a lot when I was in my teens so they are not that special to me. I helped my Dad run 1000 hooks a night during summer vacation and those licences just represent a lot of hard work to me...... I put them in a big glass jar with all of my other interesting non coin finds for my kids to go through when I'm gone. That will keep them busy for a while. I'm on my second three gallon jar.

Larry - I grew up fishing. Never thought the Miss could support commercial fishing. How many, how big & what fish did you go for?

Thx,
Albert

I'll send you a PM Albert.
