Once again right before dark a few minutes ago. Busy day so I had only a few minutes to detect. This time the hit was about 6 feet from yesterday's V nickel. The signal was very smooth and repeatable, I'd already dug some great sounding interesting little iron things quite deep. The coin was about 6 inches down in the sandy soil under the grass. I was scrubbing the grass with the coil to get the signal. Dug down and scooped out quite a pile of sandy soil then the pin pointer said it was up. Sure enough in the pile on plastic sheet there it was, a 1918 Walking Liberty half dollar. Guess I'll stick with this little Compadre for the time being, it's trying to tell me it can do the job just fine. Maybe I'll treat it to some decent headphones, any suggestions? The ones I have are really inexpensive.
Nice find! I have a pair of Bushmasters ($135) that I like a lot. I've had a pair of Jolly Rogers but audio nowhere close to Bushmasters. The original Grey Ghost ($9 are good too. I've tried Killer B's but found them to be too tight on my head, but did have good audio. Goo luck and keep the keepers coming!
Man, I love finding those walking liberty half dollars.... too bad it doesn't happen more often. Nice early big silver find !
Lots of good quality headphones out there, I have a set of Killer B's that I like, but as Fletch88 said earlier, they are tight on your head....maybe I have a big gourd.........
Skiwhiz, a forum member here builds custom made headphones and does great looking work. He can build you anything you want...camo, colors, etc. and you can't beat the price. I highly recommend him and he is a heck of a good guy to deal with.
He had a post with a pair of headphones he built just a few days ago, a camo set for like 68 bucks I believe it was. One heck of a deal for sure..........HH
I may be selling my compadre, because i want to finance a new outlaw, I miss the outlaw, in normal ground i find the ground balance is not so critical , I did some experiments in my ground and used a + ground bal, and a _ Balance the difference was not that great , in disc, its when you hunt in a threshold all metal that balancing seems more critical, what did help in more mineralized ground was the DD coil , so lets face it the Compadre is for normal soils and it will do fine, and as some do they turn up the gain == congratulations on the super hard to find large silver
