The Champion

Royal

Well-known member
I found an old fruit jar called "The Champion" in the bottom of the St Clare River, between the US and Canada, back a few years ago and was wondering if any of you bottle nuts could give me any information on it.

I know it is not common but when was it made, where was it made and how rare is it. It has a chip in the lip.

Anothe interesting bottle I found in a local lake is a B Stroh bottle. It was made from 1882 - 1902 the historian at Stroh told me. Perfect shape.

Lots of nice stuff still out there

HI Royal .I Checked My Books But ITs Not There.Ive Heard The Name Before It Might Be A Good -one.I Looked Thru My Collection But No Luck. Those Old Jars Are Great Does It Have A Lot Of Whittle Marks.Sory Royale But I'll Keep On The Case And Get Back To You . Jim

That is the one I dug and just threw aside. I had found a bunch of inks and other meds on that dive and had my dive bag full. I found a couple more small bottles and looked around for something to put them in, there was the Champion. I just filled it up and eventually went to shore.

The Champion was the rarest of the bunch.

According to the Red Book #6,it is "The Champion Pat. Aug 31,1869" it had a ground lip, glass lid & iron yoke clamp. Its aqua in color and complete its value when the book was published was $200.00 to $225.00.

you are right. I think said it was clear but now that I think about it, I think it was a light aqua color. It is not in perfect shape but what the heck, I just threw it away at first and only retrieve it to carry my inks in

I appreciate your and Pipers help. I have a bunch of bottles I have found while diving but they are packed away because if my dang house ever sells am moving up here permanently :D
