The Buying Bug

I'm sure everyone on the forum has had this happen. once or more times and infact still maybe bit with the bug.

This can be an addicting thing as it has for me.

I became so addicted in buying metal detectors that all I wanted todo was bid on ebay because i thought well If I had this unit then I can hunt certain areas and find stuff other guys didnt. Or EVERYONE SAYS this unit is the best.

I'd buy into all of the hear say and spend money I really didnt have.

I'd get myself in trouble financially. Having to squander a savings bond here and there to make up the balance I spent.

So. just a friendly word of advice.

REMEMBER THIS.)))) NO matter what detector you use or own.

You will never find treasure unless its under your coil.

Learn your machine , The one))))you can afford and you wont go broke buying and buying.

Learn the unit and make profit to support your hobby. Dont empty the bank on buying and buying every unit you think you need to have.

Have a good one.

I'm guilty of this ! But there is a reason, I had to find the detector that was ideal for my needs.

I can now report that the detector that meets my needs and light to use for hours on end and easy on batteries has been found.

The bug, it sure does take over, but once you find the detector that meets your needs etc, you got to force yourself to stop saying what-if etc.

I've had many a heated discussion with metal detectors with my partner too (my wife), she has not been happy with the amount of money that I've invested in the hobby, but she has come around some what, this is due to the fact that some of my finds have been so good that she's claimed them (gold key with 45 diamonds, 2 gold rings with diamonds and some other stuff). Also, my latest find, an 11.2 gram 24K gold ring which was sold to ease this winters heating bill (oil).

There has to be a cut-off point, and you have to be strong with you self so that you don't end up loosing what you have in life.

With that said and done, I hope you all have a great day.

Oh, and be safe out there when detecting.

I was bit to. Still hard not to buy one more. Have 5 one four gold four coin shooters

I am usually a tightwad, many times when I see a metal detector going for a good price I buy it or bid on it just because it is a good deal. After I bid on one I hope that someone outbids me just so I don't have to pay for it. Now I am up to 7 detectors.

i guess this is what happened to me, i just ''won'' an ace 150 on ebay for $93, that i need like a hole in my head. i have a 1500GTI, a PRO, and a GOLD pre ordered, plus a BH 505. oh well, the grand kids will like it...

I'm guilty. I have too many. I can see having several due to different hunts such as a water machine, a prospecting machine, and possibly several coin shooter/park machines. Especially if one likes to own both an ID machine and a basic beep and digger. There's 4 right there and that should be plenty for most people. The trouble is, it's very easy to get into a mind set that if one's good, two or more is better. Most of what I've used have been picked up used so it hasn't cost me as much as it might have, but I need to bite the bullet and reduce the herd a bit. My two cents.

Yeah I've had that bug bad.then I found the bug detector for me a Fisher 1270. But then my wife let her car get repoed. And I had to hock it to get dang car back. Now I'm looking for that one detector again. I have come close with the X2 I have now. just picked up a whites classic II sl nope not for me, it its for sale. Now I just picked up a mint BHTR on its way.But I'm still piineing for that 1270 in my heart we clicked

Once the buying addiction hits, your hooked! Proven fact, you can't have enough of them. No different than collecting coin, stamps, old bottles, Barbie dolls etc.
The good thing about detectors you can do more than just look at them, you can use them. The excuse everyone has, to justify buying another, they find valuables that will eventually pay for itself, the price was cheap, saving it for trade material......Often not the case.....LOL...what the heck, we need to have it anyways.
It's funny how we scrounge around finding the spare cash to buy another.......sell the kids toys, bike, sell the neighbors lawnmower......After awhile you realize your over your head and gone over the edge and need to stop and thin the herd. So you sell one off, then two off, then three off. You feel so much better when you get down to two detectors.
Gee you need two detectors just to cover most hunting situations...........you can't have less than two at any one time.

Now your feeling good about yourself again. Saving cash in the bank, wife says the family budget is working, we can afford to go out and eat, etc.
Then withdrawal sets in. You start to read forum posts, scan Ebay-Craigs List-Kijiji...spot some good deals...you need a fix. You have spare cash again burning a hole in your pocket. You spot that gem of a deal, decisions, decisions, you can't sleep thinking about......your wallet opens....your in trouble!

There's no escaping your Detector Addiction, no cure, even hunted out sites can't deter you from getting another. Might well face it, your addicted to deetect'in.
