The British Have invaded the Sov Meter Mod

Sven

Well-known member
You'll find this on UK flee....

Seems like this is going to be the next popular mod for the Sov. in the US and UK.

Maybe I missed this in the other string (now moved to Mod forum). The British say it will indicate iron with all other numbers blanked. Is this in Disc and A/M? Having a two way meter on my GT would be interesting. The Digitmeter only works in Disc. I never understood that one. Metal is metal isn't it? Some of the tones are just as informative in A/M as in Disc. With the addition of a meter working both ways I could see some good possibilities. Don

Can't tell you a thing about the UK meter mod, it's just something I found while surfing the net at UK Fleebay.
I was just pointing out to you folks that Joe Patrick in the US now has competition in the UK.
So who copied who? It sure is an interesting mod that has brought some new spark into Sov....who know what this mod will lead to.

Joe's original post:
On December 10th of last year I made a post on this forum about my possible introduction of a new accessory product for Minelab Sovereign users. The details can be read in that post and its replies.

Today, I am happy to announce that the "possibility" is now a reality!

Thanks to the initial request of my good friend Bob Sickler for a small, lightweight, non-pole-mounted target ID display that he could easily see on his hip-mounted Sovereign; I designed a unique new accessory product, which I have trade-named the In-Sight digital target identification display.

As you will see from the In-Sight web site and brochure, it is a very unique custom design and application, having never before been accomplished for the Sovereign.

I want to publicly thank Bob for all of his help and input on this project. As you can tell from the great-looking web site banner and logo designs... they are Bob

The postage to the UK will kill you ($63 uninsured & $87 with $400 insurance! My GT & S-8 coil are worth over $600, so it would be even more for a GT, in my opinion. I don't see this as any threat to Joe's business, just re-inforcement that it is a good idea!.

I don't think it's possible to display a VDI # on the Sovereign in All Metal. The VDI output is based on conductivity of the target in discrimination as far as I know. The higher the conductivity the higher the voltage output (from 0 to 2 volts). I've seen many people over the years wish they had a VDI on certain machines in All Metal. I think this is more due to the old school thinking of back in the day when all metal often got much deeper on machines than discrimination mode. Not saying that isn't true on the GT because there seem to be a lot of people who like to hunt using the reverse discrimination method. From what I've seen so far my GT seems to have LESS depth in all metal (at least in pinpoint). Even if that's not the case, many of today's units get no better depth in all metal than discriminate.

Interesting, I posted a reply and true to censorship it has been removed, yet STRANGELY enough it didn't say anything that wasn't the truth, seems like some people are afraid of that subject though.
