The Best Metal Detector Acording to EBAY

Ok I have done an unofficial analysis of EBay and have determined the Best and Worst Detectors:

Best Minelab Etrac, Whites MXT and MXT Pro, Minelab X-Terra 705, Teknetics T2

Worst: Whites V3, Whites DFX, Fisher F75

Ok how did I come up with these ratings. Well look at the V3 there are more of them for sale then caters has pills. Then look at the MXT some but not many and most of those I bet are from upgrading to the MXT Pro. The X-Terra 705 is pretty rare and sells fast.

Now the DFX was a hard call and I may be wrong since there are a lot for sale but the also seem to be selling very well

Of course none of this is based on any facts just pure speculation for fun.

I think you need to do a little more work on your analysis, and it's Carter's not caters.

Perhaps, instead of "best" or "worst" categories, maybe "fastest selling" and "slowest selling", or "most for sale" and "least for sale"......then other categories could include; "highest priced", "lowest priced", "best loved", "least loved".....then it could all go into a book, and we would have a new record "low".

Bryanna I agree with you: definitely unofficial and definitely not based on any facts.

Your "best" detector - the T2, is a kissin' cousin made by the same manufacturer and very similar performance-wise to your "worst" detector - the F75.

If you are seeing way more F75s for sale than T2s, that's probably because way more F75s have been sold new.

Personally, I wouldn't call any detector that I haven't used a "worst" detector. How would I know it's a "worst" detector if I have no experience with it?

Fat finger spelling. Was not meant to be serious analysis just a casual observation of units for sals and those not for sale. Does bring up some questions why are so many V3 for sale - my guess is it has more to do with complication and patients to learn then true performance.

You have way too much time on your hands Bryannagirl........

There are other factors at play. For instance, many detectors that people really like get held onto by people, or are very hard to find a good price used.

 Yeah (again)!--------Bryannagirl, first of all (IMHO), there are no "best" detectors--just as there are no "worst" detectors.----Why do I say this?----It's because due to the fact that there are sooo many variables/factors that come into play for individual(s) in determining what detector(s) is "best" for them.------For instance, a detector that works just wonderful for one person in a certain geographic area or local that he/she hunts in may not work well at all for another person half way across the states (or world), for what is important to them in detector performance.-----There are just SO MANY reasons why you see detectors come up for sale--too many to list!-----So to say what's the best or not the best, according to ebay-------nah, sorry---"not buyin it". :)-----------Del

The V3 and V3i are excellent detectors having said that, there as heavy as a boat anchors and the V3i has over 160 settings, talk about overkill! I think they pushed the limits with the V3i. That's why I put mine up for sell.

Yes I was board, I have been looking to change detectors so I had some time on eBay. Just started to notice some trends. I think some detectors just work for people, does not mean they are better or worse just that for some people certain detectors click. Basesd on sales there should be a million (ok I exaggerate ) Ace 250 for sale but for a casual hobby person this detector seems to do the deed for not much money. I was not intending to offend anyone or any detector. I do agree their are no worst or best detectors just what you like and do not like at any point in time. I am still up in the air on what to buy next. X-terra 705 keeps moving up high on my list but owning a DFX makes me interested in the V3, then there is that strong camp of Fisher F75 (and it's near twin the T2) devotes that swear buy these detectors. So many detectors so little money. Anyway thanks for all the posts a least I stimulated some conversation

No harm, no foul!-----I don't think you offended anyone Bryanna--if you did, they are too protective of their detector!-----Thanks for posting & it did stimulate some conversation--we gotta have something to talk about!----------God Bless, Del

This is an interesting subject.

2/20/2013, E-bay List for sale;

(942) Garretts
(804) Bounty Hunters
(510) Minelabs
(422) Fishers
(174) White's

It doesn't mean anything, nothing.

Some manufactures encourage retailers to fight it out for sales (mostly based on price) on the Internet knowing (eventually) only the largest, wealthiest, and most committed (big box) retailers will survive. Thus easily concentrating/focusing distribution efforts to a top few.

While others encourage and support brick and mortar retailers.

E-Bay is the easiest (least labor, least service) way to sell anything, short perhaps Craig's List.

Hi Del, I totally agree with both your posts and especially how we may need some more "analizing" as to where Tesoro's rightful place in all this is, seeing that it is the least resold machine of them all, yet no mention. ?? Just curious, and had to say so.for the benefit of those that never heard of Tesoro and are still "bored." That should give them something to ponder.. HH Charlie.

Man "o" man some of us on this forum has a bad case of cabin fever . I read the question and the thread and I had to go back to the question and wonder why anyone would use eBay for even a "Just for Fun" analysis ... I mean really this has and should have no basis on rating best to worst on anything . A lot of detectors are sold on eBay by Estate buyers that don't even have a clue how to put it together but realize they are one of the quick sales so they buy them cheap and sell them large . Many people think buying one of the higher priced detectors will find them riches by just turning them on . But the facts are that with this hobby you only get back what you put into it so they get frustrated and sell them . For me the best detector hasn't been made yet , and the worst is the one I had the chance to own but passed it by only to regret it later . Happy Trails , Woodstock

Wow! I'd say lighten up, but I'd doubtless get a lecture on the evils of tobacco. Some of us are WAY too tightly wound. A fun observation is not a call to arms. There actually is some significance to how many units are held vs how many are passed along, but I don't know if it can be formally distilled. It is a great topic to kick around. IMHO

Well lets see you didn't even mention Tesoro if you go by ebay standards, they are the least moving than all the others .Whats that tell ya,you have as much luck using a crystal ball , or maybe flipping a coin heads or tails..Seriously you have way to much time on your hands !!!!!!!

Fewer USED Tesoro's on Ebay than anything else. Do the math!
