Been out the last three evenings for a couple of hours each time and rounded up over $12.00 in coins plus trinkets with the trusty 1500. There just isn't a better coin getter than this machine and the bulk of the coins were quarters. This machine loves quarters.

Have to include with so many different alloyed pennies somtimes one will appear in the dime slot. As far as quarters, get a reading and you can rest assured its a quarter..
Perhaps your missing its likeness for gold jewelry which can appear from low foil to bottlecap. I would investigate the several blocks below nickel which take in the foil range as thats where the nice thin womans gold rings with nice stones come in. Yep Garretss like gold jewelry and only accepting its likes coins may be missing some nice jewelry..

It's like taking candy from a baby. The machine does all the ID'ing for you...all you gotta do is dig up those goodies. There is absolutely no other machine out there that gives you as much information and such a high probability of finding good keepers. I raise my glass to that one! <img src="/metal/html/wink.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=";)">

Yeah I've had a train load of detectors in my time and the 1500 is my favorite. Yours has sure been good to you.

Have to admit its a fun machine and truly a nice coinshooter. If it had 100 blocks instead of 24 would even be better accuracy wise...that penny dime slot can be fooled with certain pennies...Nothing is perfect as with all units but a 1500 especially with imaging surely is one of the best around...

John, I have been reading this forum for years and you have had some remarkable success with your 1500. I would say, your finds have probably paid for your Garrett. You must be close to getting that province cleaned out. HH R.L. Johnson

Yeah corroded dimes especially usually always read as cents so I dig all cents.

I've been blessed with lots of finds with the 1500. I started out with the GTA 500. It was kinda wobbly and unstable with lots of sensitivity. It too found lots of coins, especially pennies. I think I have mastered the GTI 1500, as I have found over 40,000 coins with both these Garrett Machines. I also have to give credit to Charles Garrett's Book "The New Successful Coin Hunting", which I have read several times. His knowledge, ideas and technical information really put this art of metal detecting together. I also like ALL types of hunting, to this day. I flip around hunting boulevards, schools, sportsfields, old homes, in lakes, around lakes, in the woods, ski hills etc. Thay all have their unique types of finds. And of course making time to hunt. Hunting every day for at least an hour a day adds up over a year. What a great hobby!

I'm not sure more than 24 blocks would be a big advantage because the same denomination coin will ID differently depending on how deep it is, the angle in the ground, how old/corroded it is, what kind of soil it is in, moisture level, etc. My hunting buddies that use Whites and Minelabs with digital ID number readouts into the hundreds run into the same thing, sometimes a certain coin will read high, and sometimes it will read low.
