with the bugs is take a bunch of pictures of the same bug and hope for a good one

now let me ask a question. Was this taken with a SLR or digital camera--and did it have a "macro" lens?
Ive been peeping at all the photography that you guys have posted recently. Im very impressed. I have a Sony digital with a 3.2 megapixel. I enjoy it alot even though its different from the old SLRs of days gone by.
Keep up the good work!

I know you Wayner so I figure you did not read the instructions that come with your camera but it probably has a macro mode. You push the button and usually a little flower comes up on the little screenie thingie.
Just move in on the bug or coin or whatever and let the autofocus take over. Then click away. You will be able to zoom in even closer with that software I gave you, if you ever install it <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">
I have seen guys get incredible shots with 2 meg cameras

I have not figured out a way to catch a bee without getting stung. There is another problem with bugs, getting them to stay in one place long enough for you to take their photo. I followed Royal's advice last year and put them in the ice box...but do not keep them in the section of the ice box where you make ice cubes, that kills them.
You folks have lit a fire under me, so this weekend I will try to take a photo of a bug again. I just finished charging the battery to the camera, getting ready to take the photos. I am going to follow Royal's advice and take lots of photos in the hope of getting one good photo out of the batch.
Your photo is very colorful, and the detail is great. Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas) <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

try to find an insect that is intent on something else. I once found a glob of jelly on a picnic table and so did a wasp. I sat there and took a dozen pictures from a couple inches away and it didn't seem to bother it at all.
Be sure to set your camera on macro and let the autofocus do it for you. Look at your manual and it will tell you the distance you must be within to get a good shot and
Good luck. I find it to be fun

well after a bit i did <img src="/metal/html/blush.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":redface">
That was macro mode but i was standing in the middle of the dang wet bush with little hot pokers buzzing around me <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> I did not show you guys the other pics heh heh.
