The bear!!

A bear was walking across Rainbow Bridge (Old Hwy 40 at Donner Summit,
Truckee) on Saturday when two cars also crossing the bridge scared
the bear into jumping over the edge of the bridge. Somehow the bear
caught the ledge and was able to pull itself to safety. Authorities
decided that nothing could be done to help Saturday night so they
returned Sunday morning to find the bear sound asleep on the ledge.
After securing a net under the bridge the bear was tranquilized,
fell into the net, lowered, then woke up and walked out of the net.

it takes a lot to move a bear that is hooked in! The power in those legs and claws is incredible. Good find!

Lucky bear for sure. Great that they went thru all the effort to get him off there safely. Geo

appreciate the help!

I saw a program about bear on Discovery a week or so ago and they were saying that a bears sense of smell is SEVEN times as sensitive as a bloodhound! It is amazing. A ranger in some park was telling about a bear that broke into an outpost cabin and destroyed or ate all the provisions. All except 7 cans of sauerkraut. They said the dang bear could smell the kraut thru the can come way or smell some residue from the canning process

It is great that some caring folks helped this bear to survive. Mike, thanks for posting this story. Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas) :)
