The AT Pro suprised me today

I mostly hunt in public parks and areas that are real trashy. I have not been too impressed with the AT Pros audio so far. I decided to go to a local park again but I stopped by my sons house instead. I have never detected there so I thought I would give it a try. I started by the sidewalk that goes into his house and got a good clear signal with the AT Pro. Dug down pretty deep and pulled out the 36 mercury. Got another good signal a minute or so later and pulled out the 64 dime. A minute later got another deep signal and pulled out the 45 quarter. All the signals were nice and clear and all the targets were over 6 inches deep the quarter was even deeper.

I can see that the AT does fine. I think I have just been using it in the worst areas and thats why I never seem to get real good signals with it. Today it was right on the money. Most of the pennies are wheats and were pulled from two seperate holes with 4 inches of each other. Almost like someone buried them. I havent checked the dates yet. Too bad they werent silver dollars......;o)

Congrades on the sweet finds Bill but the at-pro works wonders in the trashy areas as well just gotta listen too alot chirping lol also adjust your disc level i adjust mine from 50 down too 0 notched out.

I bet a lot of those trashy parks have been previously detected and have had some of the silver removed. You witnessed what the AT Pro is capable of doing. good luck in the future, hope you get plenty more silver:thumbup:

Thanks for the comments. You are right John. I was thinking the same thing. Most of the silver around here is hard to come by on public land. I am sure there is still plenty that has been missed because of masking, etc but you really have to put in some time in the public places and be willing to dig some of the iffy signals or try to look for the out of the way spots that most people would avoid.

I was detecting in a public park the other day and a city worker stopped and asked me if I had found anything. At that point I only had some clad so thats what I told him. He then said to me, you would not believe the number of people that have detected here. I told him thats ok, they can't get it all (meaning the good stuff like silver or gold).

Bill, I think the worst thing anyone can do is take a new detector to a pounded hard spot. You tend to start digging too many "iffy, jumpy" signals expecting miracles. I had my best luck with the AT the first couple of times I hit my hard hunted spots. Since then, I am a bit discouraged. To be honest, these spots I go to are just about ready to be put on the inactive list. It seems that every time a new detector comes out, I buy it and take it to these spots. I almost always have some success but they seem to "peter out" very quickly after several hunts.I guess at some time, the oldies will be gone for good. R.L.

Just think of all the coins you have found at the very edge of the detectors limit. What gets me is you know just another half inch or so down there are still many coins. I think if they come out with a detector or coil that would give us even another 2 inches it would be like virgin ground again.......;o)

One of the biggest mistakes people make with a new detector is trying it in a tough condition. Hunting these places are hard even with a detector you know very well.

Take a new detector to a place fairly easy for the first few times or until you feel you know what to expect before you put it to the real test.

That's been my experience too............I've hunted in really trashy areas and the Pro goes nuts. When I take it into the woods, the signals are clear and the depth is accurate. The problem is, the trashy areas are where the people have been over the years and I just HATE to go though them too quickly or to ingnore them altogether. I found 17 coins today (all clad) along the side of a walking path and amongst the pines.

Some people are shocked to find out their new 'super detector' also find trash deeper than the old units they've used.If it will find a nickle @ 12 inches , then the pulltabs will also sound off that deep.

We are creatures of habit, all of us. That is the first thing I did when I got my Pro. Off to a park I have hunted 50 times. Still found a couple of things, but we always wonder why we do not find more with this great new machine.
I have started hunting vacant lots and I do much better than places I have hunted already. Not much chance of jewelry in vacant lots, but the trash is not as bad either. It is kind of funny though I never see any other detectorists in my town.

Today I found a jack at 10" in a vacant lot. Now a jack by itself is no big deal, but a jack at 10" lets me know if there is something down there the Pro will probably let me know it. Not much mass in a little jack.

The best thing and the most fun is just getting out in the open air and checking the ground out. Never know what might come up.

I would love to go on a month long motor home trip across the USA and just detect every little town and whistle stop that I please. Maybe taking old route 66 might be the way to do it. Might even be better to tent camp across the USA.
