The AT Pro on the ground, in the sand, and in the water

I figured that since there are those folks who have been very impressed with the air tests that have been performed , that there might be a few people who would like to see some tests performed on the soil, or in the sand , or maybe even a test or two showing the AT Pro in water ...... I think that this showing would be important for anyone who is interested in buying an AT Pro ....... Could someone who has tested the AT Pro please show us some of these tests ? .......Thank you ......JIm

I would like to see such test.....The one thing i will say for Garrett is there detectors do what they say they will do.If garrett tells you it will hunt in the surf it will hunt in the surf....What i would like to know is how will it do in salt water?????I am looking to buy one i have waited a long time for garrett to come out with a new detector..Just show us the tests.........:poke:

I too would like to see "in the field results". Air tests are just that, AIR TESTS. I have yet to find any targets in the air where I go detecting. I had (4) different Shadow X5's once (I was a dealer then) that would air test a quarter at 17 inches. Wasn't worth a flip in the field. Worst discriminator on a so called high end detectors I ever had. And they weren't cheap either.

I did not post this thread to BASH Garrett nor any other companies detectors .... There has been a lot said both pro and con about the AT Pro .... Let's see what it can REALLY do in area's where we hunt ..... As stated in the thread, we have already seen what it can do in the air, now let's see what it can do on the ground, in the sand , and in the water, where we will be actually using it .....If someone who has thier hands on this machine , can take so much time to show us air tests, then please show us some ground, sand, and water tests .....It's a simple matter of going outside and taping some footage for all to see .......THIS will hopefully answer some of the many questions that people have and give folks an idea of what they are buying .... Thank You ..... Jim

I would be more interested in how well it separates. Is the scale and numbers Zinc-Penny-Dime-Quarter? Or IH-Zinc-Memorial/Wheat-Clad Dime-Silver Dime-Quarter-Silver Quarter+ Like the machine I'm using now.

One of the downfalls of my past detectors was the IDing. Wheat's and Memorials came in as dimes. Any type of bottle cap/screw cap came in as Quarters etc.

EZR, I can't answer your separation concern because I, like everyone else on this forum, haven't used an AT yet. I can offer this since I have a lot of time on other detectors that have the same 100 point numeric ID system that the AT will have. Again, since Garrett has never offered numeric ID before, I can only assume the AT will act similarly. Like everything else, there are always gonna be trade-offs. In this case, when you have a 100 numeric spread ID system and 40 of those points are for the ferrous spectrum, you lose a little non-ferrous resolution just because the non ferrous targets are spread across (only) a 60 number spread vs say a system where ferrous was represented by a 16 number spread and non-ferrous an 84 number spread. Despite this, and the good news is IF the AT behaves like others with the same numeric system, you usually get a 1 number variation between relative shallow memorial copper pennies and clad dimes. Naturally, silver dimes will usually be a number or two higher yet. Both clad and silver quarters each give a unique numeric ID also. Depth and or conditions can and usually make this vary from what you see with shallower targets in mild relative trash free ground. There have long been established fairly effective sweep "tricks", setting variations, as well as design features used to decipher caps. Depends on the detector and coil design as to which might work the best. Very little, if anything, is absolute in metal detecting.

I would say they are going to be great detectors for the money. More than you can get any where else for the price. I will have one as soon as they ship I know a distributor and a guy pretty high up at Garret and he can not even get one yet to test. Theses are going to sell huge if you do not have one ordered or grab one quick I would say forget getting one before the end of the year. Do not think you are going to get these type videos until some private guys get them do not see Garret doing it. They will have no trouble selling them with or without this type of video.

I also got my eyes on the VDI scale......... If it's to narrow where bad targets fall on the good targets (not good) I'm hoping for a WIDE VDI scale :clapping:

The on-line vids will not show this
