the artillary shell that wasn't

2 days ago i was hunting in the Bentonville Battlefield area of NC. I got a strong iron reading and began digging. I revealed a large, heavy, thick piece of iron and thought for sure it was a shell. The first pic is what i saw at the time. As I carefully dug around it and pulled it out of the ground , I was rather disappointed to find the end of a drill bit. I guess it's from a well drilling bit or a fence post auger...oh well.....the following day i returned to my bottle pit area and found what i think might be the tip of a sword blade or part of a Bowie type knife.
 
I could see where initially you could have thought it was a shell. That blade bit looks interesting. Could be a bowie type knife but it looks like the end of a sword to me.
 
Oooo....I see the resemblance. Almost looks like a Hotchkiss bottom with half of the powder chamber missing due to a partial burst. I think I'd of made it an artillery projectile upon extraction. :ranting:

Hang in there. A shell's waiting on you somewhere.
