Hit the same park where I found the ring last week with the Cortes today. The Cortes is at the Doctor's so I had no target ID crutch. Was there for about an hour in the heat 100+ degrees. Here is a picture of my finds. It was interesting digging new stuff other than coins.. well maybe.
Anyway started by the picnic tables and 4 pull tabs later I was done there digging in hard ground to be rewarded with pull tabs. Went back to the wood chip playground to learn about the machine. It was a whole lot easier to learn when it was wood chips and light dirt!
I found I had to keep the sensitivity to 3.5 since anything over that and I was digging small pieces of crumpled steel or aluminum(see picture). So with the threshold turned rather low and the sensitiviy set at 3.5 and the main discriminator at the mark between foil and nickle, and the second discriminator on Tab I hunted.
I think I am trying to listen for tiny changes too much! If I just sweep and dig when I get a good solid tone I am rewarded with coins, but if I listen for the faint changes then dig a little and sweep and it sounds better then I dig it I find trash. I think it was saying I got trash dummy at first but I was listening too intently and digging when I got a faint sound.
All in all I had a good day and enjoyed learning about the animal once I moved to the easier wood chip area to learn at. Still found a nickle and 5 pennies along with the other stuff.
I kept trying to turn the sensitivity up and everytime I did I started hitting on 6" pieces of tiny steel(picture).
The animal is one great machine and has proven it will find everything, even though I am not interested in everything. I will hone my tone abilities and resist listening too intently cause everytime I passed over a coin BLAM it was there LOUD & CLEAR with no doubt. I still think the Cortes has a sweeter sound when it goes over a coin then the animal though. Maybe it will be back from the doctor's next week.
