...........yes, my friends, I planned a day at home from work one day this week because my daughter Sandy was sick from the day before. Tuesday morning, she woke up feeling spunky & she wanted to go to school.
I took her to school & came home. I planned on doing some of those "honey-do" jobs but everytime I went outside, the weather kept getting prettier. About 11AM, I couldn't stand it anymore. I wanted to get the recently purchased chest waders really wet TODAY!!
So, here's a pic of the ol' yardhunter getting those chest waders out --ready for a spin:

Since the 1280X is a single toned detector, it was driving me crazy retrieving the scrap wire throughout one of the lakes I'm detecting. I put the 1280X away & started using this CZ5 as pictured below: ( pic taken last fall )

Well, I was very successful with the time I had left for the season. I found more gold ( & pulltabs ) because I only retrieved the mid tones....meaning pulltabs & gold rings.
I sold the 1280X recently & I'm going to get a CZ 20 within the next 2 weeks. I plan on thumping some of the lakes around here this summer. Anyway.....here I am ready for the water at a lake:

Pretty cute, huh?? Hmmm, I look like some ol' geezer ready to go fly fishing. LOL !! Anyway, I proceeded to get into the water preparing to be cold. To my amazement, I wasn't cold at all. Here's a pic of me hunting in an area that has given up a gold ring or two in the past:

This area of the lake has a sloppy muddy bottom & that's why I use this homemade sifter. You can load this puppy up with 5-7 scoops of mud & it won't tip over:

Actually, there were 4 targets in all that mud when I finally sorted the material out. The "stolen" tupperware pitcher ( from my wife's cupboard ) on the left hold all the targets, both good & bad. It will even hold a popcan.
I had a very successful hunt for the 1st time out this season using a land detector & after 3 hours, I had to leave in order to get home by 4pm for another commitment. Below is a neat pic of a high river bridge that replaced the older one below with the drift along the pier:

Hope you like those countryside pics. About 25-30 miles from home, I stopped at a country store to get some chips & a pop. Well, what do you think happened next???
The truck wouldn't start. The starter was acting erratic.
I tried to get it started by crawling under the truck & beating on the starter. I told myself.......please, all I need is one more start baby & I'll get home.
Nada, nope, that puppy wouldn't work. During that time, a fellow that I see on the mail routes & we also went to high school together asked me if I was broke down. YEP, I am. He works a potato chip truck & was delivering to the store. It just so happen that I also hunt coins in older yards here in my hometown with this fellow's dad. He offered me a ride home in the chip truck since I was stuck!!
Hmmm, why not?? I'm always up for a adventure! Once I made it home after another stop, I called my brother & asked for his help. Below is a pic of me being pulled up the highway at 60 mph behind a 20 foot logging chain:

Notice the chain between us. This pic was fun to take since I'm driving a truck without power steering or brakes.
OK, OK, you are probably by now asking ......What did you find for 3 hours worth of hunting at the lake??
Well, here it is:

Looks nasty, huh??
Below is a pic of the finds after cleanup:

I concentrated on mid tones only. Those coins were in the holes along with the midtones. I didn't even know those two rings in the lower corner were rings until I cleaned them up. The bummer is.....they are junk. Oh well, that's detecting. Those junk rings aren't a setback, it only fires me up more! If the are junkers there, the good ones are there too! I'll get 'em or have fun trying!!!!
I still had a fun time & no I didn't make it home on time. I can't wait to get that CZ 20 here so I won't have to worry about "dunking" a CZ5.
Hope you enjoyed the adventures/misadventures of a dedicated/crazy lake hunter.............see ya mark
