The Ace is a hard act to follow.

I heard today that a lady had lost a gold watch at one of my favourite spots. I figured that it was a good excuse to get a mid week hunt in. Between talking and swallowing flies (the#@!*&## things were all over me today) I was unable to locate it for her.( I suspect that she may have been a victim of a pick pocket though.) I switched back to the large coil for the day.
I've got close to 200 hours on it now, but still, this thing keeps showing new attributes that I wasn't paying too much attention to previously. I have been ignoring the intensity meter till a recent conversation with Phil Sternes, which also covered signal width. When pinpointing, I've been paying a lot more attention to the intensity meter, while at the same time seeing how wide the signal is when checking a target with a side to side movement. Comparing this information to the depth metre, is a good way of figuring out whether a target is a coin or a deeper junk item.
With a detector like this, I find it hard to justify buying anymore high end machines. The GTI inclusive.

Yeah the 250 does about everything the big tectors can do. Thought I told you about the signal strength. I've talked about it many times in regards to all Garrett detectors. You also use that to center the target when pinpointing.

Yeah. You told me, but at the time, I wasn't appreciating the signal width. I just seemed to confuse me as to where the target was. I found that using the toe of the inner coil to be a more effective method. I guess that I'm a bit dense. at least the penny has finally dropped.
This might sound a bit harsh. But I think that the instruction manual seriously needs to be rewritten in regards to pinpointing, as it will only confuse a new user of the Ace. Actually, I think that there is a lot that can be written about the pinpoint function. the things that you can do with it is simply, remarkable!
Mick Evans.

Yeah the manual left a lot to be desired which is why I started out early on the forum trying to explain it to everyone. I don't think the technical writers they have write the manuals ever used the detector they are writing about. For a long time Garrett didn't advertise their Scan Track and ground tracking until Ben Meyers of W&ET and me told them they were missing out on big selling points.
