The 600 does it again!

So yesterday at the old Yuba schoolhouse, I got the Indian head penny and a few Wheaties. Went back out again today for about 3 hours. I managed to pull a 1906 Indian Head Penny out which also rang in at 22. Three more wheat pennies a 1910, a 1918, and a 1941. Towards the end of the hunt just as I was getting ready to wrap up, I have a solid 13 both ways. And out pops what I believe is a 1st year 1883 Liberty nickel. It's pretty slick around the edge especially right at the date. You can see 18 the last two numbers looks like 88 or 89. And I still have a little over half of the yard to go. The one thing I didn't expect to find there or the old fishing lures. That leaves older screw on bottle caps ring in between 20-22. Drives me Nuts!!

Just curious.. are you running the stock coil?

You are killing it at Yuba! Once you are done with the other half, change to a total different angle and run the yard again.

Yes. I was looking at a 5X10 from coil tech (I may have the name wrong) but can't afford it right now.

I'm doing it in sections. Once I am done I was planning on going in the opposite direction. As well as digging some of the numbers I passed up just to see what kind of non coin things I may have missed.

I'm starting to think the people that have hunted it before was just cherry picking and going after the silver. I can't believe they missed that many Wheaties and the IHP's. I keep meaning to get pics of the school house, but keep forgetting before I leave.

Can the Equinox easily pick out silver dimes from oxidized copper pennies without fail ? No detector I have used so far can do it and my 600 isn't different from the experience I've gained from it so far. It's possible that the quarters have been picked up for the most part but if you keep getting wheaties, a silver dime should pop up at one point. My ratio of silver coins to old copper coins is about 1:10 no matter what detector I use. In my last hunt for example, I found 4 silver dimes and 40 pennies. Unless some other detectorist with a super detector that can tell a silver dime from a wheat penny with no error margin, there should still be silver if copper of the same size and shape is present.

Looks like Popeye forgot his metal detector....
