The 550 Gets Another Outing

Weather is finally getting a wee bit warmer.

I'm really bummed out that I forgot to take a picture today.I was detecting a local hunting area and the snow was very deep...some spots had snow drifts a good meter deep.:thumbdown

Average snow depth was about 8" and was hard going.....needed better boots.

I happened to get a coin reading on the edge of one of these snow drifts.I started digging and found an antler. I pulled it out and found that I had an entire neck /skull and antlers of a deer.:yikes:I must have picked up a bullet some where on this assembly.I tried to bust off the neck and could not. There was still some tendons/muscle goo holding it together. Knowing it still needed more decay I threw it into the bush and thought I'd make a note of it and come back later in the year to see if its fallen apart.

Dummy (thats me) never thought about taking a photo till I got back home. Its a good few hours away so its not like I want to jump back into the car and go back and take a picture.I'll probably be back in that area in April or May.It looked like something Conan would wear on his head.

Any how I was exhausted hiking in the deep snow. The tector was picking up stuff on the surface of the ground and I got one looney about two inches deep.....I remembered to take a photo of that ( go figure).

Anyways it was a nice day and it did not snow.

glad to see you got out.boy thats some tough hunting in the snow.wish we could send you some of the great weather we are having in texas 60's and 70's its great just wish i had more time.now that daylight savings time has come should be able to get out in the evening a little more.

Glad to see you frozen folks starting to dig out and :detecting:

My brother in-law talked me into going back for the skull so back I went...... he bought the Tims and coffee.Found another 65 cents on the hike in. Good thing I came back...some critters dug it out and moved it over. We poked around trying to find the lower jaw but it was not to be found....it was there yesterday. We did find the skeleton of the back and legs though. It was just under the right side of the tree in the photo...sticking out of the snow. We left it where it stood. It was about 20 feet from where I found the skull and neck in the snow drift.I'll treat the skull and antlers and add it to my unusual finds cabinet of metal detecting.
