The 5.3 Eclipse on the V3i

I used the 5.3 almost exclusively on the dirt with my MXT. I liked it because it forced me to go slower and I loved the pinpointing. Does anyone use the 5.3 on their V3i?

Thanks

Dave

Many guys use the 5.3. If it worked on your MXT then it should work well the V3i. It is a concentric coil so your soil must not be that bad. Just remember you should be using a V rated 5.3

yes the 5.3 works great in trashy parks and has good depth also, as said above make sure it it v rated for the v3i,

Skateteacher,

I use my 5.3 about 90% of the time. I like it in trashy areas like parks. I use the 10 DD on open fields or old city lots and/or just to go a tad deeper.

This are my settings for a moderate to high mineralization here in New Mexico. Start with the RX at 4, then increase a little at a time until the detector becomes chattery (unstable). Reduce RX until it smooths out. I've never taken AM past 8 in my area.

AM = 70 to 75, DISC = 85 to 88. You can TX Boost too. Just experiment with these settings in your area.

Good Luck and have fun with the 5.3 Eclipse.

I use the 5.3 but it doesn't have to be V rated. V rated only comes into play if using TX boost and I'd guess 90% of the folks never use TX boost or don't use it 90% of the time. OK, so now all you TX boost users can come on and say "I use TX boost all the time" Well now you don't have too, I said it for you. :surrender:

Although TX Boost comes into play for V rated coils, you will also get better performance from a V rated coil in non-boost mode. Higher Gain and Sensitivity are usually experienced with a V coil just because it is tuned for the 22.5 channel. Non V coils are tuned for 15 KHz.

You will see a higher signal percent with non v rated coils causing you to have to reduce RX. Running high signal loss also leaves less head room and overloads on shallow targets.

I noticed on my VX3 in HiPro mode and using a 5.3 not V rated coil that i am getting lower ID numbers on coins, does this happen to others?

I wouldn't think that would happen. How much lower are you talking about?

They are both concentric coils. The V rated coil just has closer tolerance null because of the 22.5 kHz frequency of the V3i. The v rated coils can be used with other model Whites detectors, like the MXT or DFX but there is no gain in performance .

The V rated 5.3 will have a V at the beginning of the number stamped on the mounting ear.
