The 11" DD Coil Problem

Tfor2

New member
I've posted all over for a used 11" uMax DD coil and haven't had any replies (so have others with no results) .

So, one of two things:

1. Nobody bought one
2. Nobody wants to sell one

And I might add, nobody wants to talk about them.

This coil is so mysterious I think I'll buy one new and check it out just out of curiousity.

well i hope you do because i'm interested myself, i've only found 1 report and it was used on the silver umax and according to that it's a pretty decent coil to pinpoint with it it's a heel toe set up and depth was really good as well

Two recently sold on ebay. I even bid on one when it was going cheap. Sold for around 65$ + 12 shipping I think. Decided my needs are more for the 5.75 concentric as the parks here are pretty trashy.

well i just bought one on ebay brand new to heck with it i said and last week i just bought a brand new 7" concentric as well, I should be pretty well set now because i got the 9x 8 and 4" to boot! none are for sale yet by the way yet we'll see when spring gets here!

Thanks for replying guys! I was begiining to wonder if there was a voodoo on this coil or something.

I did find a "review" where the guy said this DD coil isn't like other DDs made by other companies. Most have a pretty flat pattern on the bottom of the signal and point either at the toe or heel. But Tesoro's DD's have a slightly cone shaped signal pattern. However it's not as extreme as the concentric coil pattern. And too he claimed the 11" uMax DD pinpoints much like the concentrics due to the sweet spot being center.

His thinking was the 11" DD is no deeper than the brown donut coil (the test was done on the Silver uMax). He claimed the advantage of the DD is it handles mineralized soil better than the concentric.

I was going to post a link to that review site but I guess I saved that link on my office computer. I'm at home now.

Personally I don't believe there's no depth advanatge. There's no way you can go from an 8" coil to an 11" without some increase in depth. Even if it is to a DD.

I don't know about you guys but I personally take these review persons with a gain of salt. Guess I've been mislead by them too many times.

Tesoro claims greater depth with both the 11" DD uMax and the 12x10 concentric uMax coil. I happen to know from experience the 12x10 makes the Silver uMax at least 3 inches deeper on coins. But it's on the heavy side and the web design is bad in brush. But there are reviewers out there who claim the 12x10 isn't any deeper on the Silver than the stock coil.

We all have to check for ourselves, that's the only way we can know for sure.

well i can vouch for deeper on the silver with the 12 x 10" i could air test a quarter at 16" thats no bull and then i tried it onb the golden i had and that combo did'nt get along at all but tonight after i read the first post on here i took the plunge and bought a 11" DD we'll see what it will do on my eldorado!

Cool. I'm buying an Eldorado uMax myself.

You like yours?

I've used an 11" concentric on the Eldorado and found it a bit heavy to swing, but otherwise a good coil. Didn't really test it for overall depth.

well Tfor2 i've only had mine for maybe three weeks and i've done alot of air testing, with the stock 9 x 8" coil this is the results i got and measured from the base of the coil and super tuned, 1820 large cent 11 1/4" , 1876 IH penny 8", 1841 half dime 6", 1914 buffalo nickel 7", 1964 kennedy half dollar 11 1/2", clad dime 7 1/2", clad quarter 11" as soon as i get a little more time i will do a video demo and let you guys be the judge

Thanks for the info.

I look forward to the video.

Ya, I've seen that video but didn't remember that he used the 11" DD.

Thanks.

The air distance he gets is about standard for a DD of that size on any brand of machine at any price. A concentric would reach out more; in most cases a lot more.

The DD has become the most popular type of coil for mineralization and ground coverage but like I think Fisher has printed on the box for the F-70, the concentric coil design is best for high trash areas.

But personally I still favor the concentric design due to the fact most of our ground here is mild. And too I like the more precise pinpointing and that extra depth.

That big copper penny at 13.5 inches shows what Tesoros love. It's pretty hard to miss a large cent or CW relic with a Tesoro.
