The 100 Coin Day, The 1000 Coin Month -- Treasure Log

2002 was my first year metal detecting. Also first year I got a Computer. Blundered onto a detecting site (not this one) All detectors were welcome. Anyway I picked up two of my most important tips on that site.
First, was a hunter out in Las Vagas, whose goal was to knock off a 100 Coins every Sat & Sun. He always didn't reach it, but it was his Goal. Sometimes he'd put together 100 plus days and shot for the 1000 Coin Month. I was one amased Newbe. The second big tip he gave us was keeping a Log. Get yourself a Ledger, Make a note for each site, Date hunted- what machine- what coil- how many coins, ? money rings etc. This info comes in real handy when planning the next hunt. Back in 2002--2003 I had a slew of 100 coin days, My sites were pretty fresh & I was laid off a lot. This year I'm retired, I'm doing OK , but not like 2002. When somebody would post a 100 Coin day. He would tell em You Sabie !!

I know how many pennies, nickels dimes etc I have dug. Where and how long each hunt was. The neat thing is, I can flip through the pages and pick a date. Then it all comes back to me about that particular hunt. :)

I've been keeping photo logs after each hunt with a little sign next to the finds showing the location. The date is in the metadata. It would work great except I get too busy (or lazy) to consolidate my photos, so I think I'll get a ledger and follow your good advice. I also keep track of the trash I find in the photos, so would probably do so in a ledger. My coin productivity is less than it could be because I dig a lot of iffy signals, which are mostly trash, but sometimes turn out to be rings or other interesting things.

now have you kept all those coins? i only keep a few relics from area, put the clad in grandaughters big plastic bank, and sold the precious metals. heck i gave away a lot of little rings to kids. returned the class rings, and never kept a log. i did logs for yrs as a cop, daily log, and said to heck with it. that was like work. wish i had now after seeing yours. only my finds would be 100,000 pieces of junk! lol!

We handle our fines about the same, except I clean em up as best I can, & roll em. Then I use them for Mad Money. I used to buy savings bonds with them. Might not be a bad idea to use em for some bonds in your Granddaughters name. Way things are today might come in handy down the road for her.
