That old dog can hunt!

This is for all of you who are on the fence about buying the Etrac,

All I can say is this machine is a beast! I left work early because the Pro coil I needed had been delivered and I just couldn't wait 4 more hours to try it out! So I get home and put her together for the maiden hunt. I started hunting the front yard of my 1800's home that I was told had been hunted out by a DFX. Well someone must of came back around and re-buried alot of coins cuz its full of coins! Seriously though this thing is a coin magnet! All this in an iron and trash laden old yard. First out pops a Wheat then another then a signal that was close to a Wheat but not quite. I thought Indian cuz I was sure it was a coin. Out pops an Indian then a foot away a "Token" of some kind, not sure what it is but its in very good condition. Next was a well worn Large Cent! The best thing was all this was happening while the threshold was nulling all the time due to the iron while in the stock coin program! Truly an amazing machine! I wonder what my 6" Excellerator will find once it is shipped, its on backorder right now.
I think I am in love! I hunted all of my yard many times with my Vaquero and dug alot of clad but very few old coins. Well the Etrac has shown me that it can easily squeeze out the old ones. Its gonna be a good year!
Sorry for the crappy pics, I need a lesson or two on that, you may have to click the "open URL" in the image tag if it doesn't post.

Glad you like the e-trac. It only gets better from here. Congrats on your finds.

That's what I like to hear.. I think I am leaning towards the Etrac.. I got my dfx when it first came out and did rather well with it .. and I would have been upset if I didn't have the latest model at the time I bought it. Seems bart from bbt has a good deal on one.. but I gotta wait a few months before I can buy it... gonna be a long few months..

It was a thrill! I go inside with the Large cent and my wife is laughing at me cuz she says I am shaking! I tell her I haven't had this much fun in a while, my comment was "it's like shooting fish in a barrel". It really was coming to me that easy. I struggled a lot when I had the EX II but this machine seems like I have used it for a while! Maybe it's because the PO hadmitmtrained so well:lmfao:

Sweet and you are right !!!!

When I responded to your last message, I failed to write that I could give some "startup" help since I've been using my E-trac for 2 years now, but, it sounds like you're doing great on your own Jeff! E-mail me some pictures when you get a chance.

Thanks Duke,

This morning I learned that a fully open quick mask screen is your friend to use at will. I had a signal that sounded good and looked good in the coin program, now the signal was also nulling some and not totally consistent but was somewhat fooling me into digging it. Then I did my best to narrow down to the exact spot where the "Good" target was and switched to my open screen in quick mask. That let me know that it was a piece of iron with sweet spot on it that was trying to trick me into digging it. So at that point I knew to just move on. The iron signal would give me a decent signal but not the good "warbling" sound you get when the Etrac locks on. I could swing two ways and get the signal but not a full 90 degree turn. The only reason I checked it out a little more was because it was about 6 or 7 inches down.

Gotta say the Etrac is truly an amazing machine

You got it. Iron can fool you sometimes by giving you a "good" signal.

It sounds like you're hot on that thing! You have just begun to be amazed by the E-trac.

Nice finds for a "hunted out yard". My hunting partners and I (2 E-Tracs and a Safari that will soon be an E-Trac) agree that no place is hunted out until it has been hunted by a Minelab FBS machine. We all agree that the E-Trac won't ever leave our stable.

Andy taught me that if you wiggle off a target through the tip of the coil then pin-point and the location moves, ignore it because you are seeing the iron halo.

I have also learned (in most cases) that if the signal is not pretty repeatable, don't dig it. The E-Trac usually doesn't lie. I have dug much trash just trying to make an "iffy signal" good. I did gamble in February and got an 11 inch deep 30S standing liberty, but it gave a repeatable enough good tone.

I hit my 70th silver coin of the year Saturday and 56 have come from my "hunted out town".

Once you use an E-Trac it is hard to go back to anything else. My Xterra 70 and MXT Pro collect dust.

HH and enjoy your E-Trac.

Thank You Tenspeed,

The Etrac is amazing, A short while ago I was ready to buy a used Etrac and could not find one for the right price. I decided that I would just go with the SE Pro and actually called a Local guy who had a nice one on Craig's list. I was all set to buy it and he didn't answer so I left a message. At that point I figured well I will get this SE Pro but in the meantime till he called me back I figured I would scan all the forum classifieds one more time. There it was, just posted, the Etrac at just the right price! Called the P.O. And bought it! I got real lucky with it and am very glad I didn't get the Explorer now cuz this Etrac is nothing short of amazing!
