That amazing Compadre

Two weeks after getting mine and experimenting, I finally found (between the "i" and "r" in "iron") a place where nails, paper clips are either rejected or break up, depending on the size of the item. Today I found a 14k gold thin chain with a good signal. Taking out my Silver umax and waving it in front of the coil-NOTHING. Putting the Silver in a/m mode-NOTHING. Finally, NONE of my detectors except a Garrett 60's model BFO would even give a weak signal. Increasing it between the "r" and "o" in "iron" stopped all the noise from the nails and it STILL gave a weak signal on the chain. To top that off, I found two pulltabs at about 4" in highly mineralized, iron-ore beneath a swing set that I had searched for over 20 years. Truly, this is Tesoro's best kept secret.

Shhhhh! Don't want every one in the neighborhood to get one for the tot lots!

Another thing that the little Compadre does as well as or even better than the expensive top line detectors is to VERY cleanly discriminate iron; even large iron.
Cheers,
tvr

For the cost, the Compadre is a sleeper.
Of all the detectors I have, and a few cost over a grand, I grab and use the Compadre a good bit because it's a simplistic, effective, and a load of fun. For the cost, what's not to like about it. And the warranty is no less than the other Tesoro's.

For most of the hunting I do - I don't feel being seriously handicap using the Compadre - many times I prefer it over my detectors cost several time more with all those bells & whistles. Just gotta love the simplicity turn on and go.

Glad you found two pulltabs today thats too bad you had to dig up that 14k gold thin chain though. I have heard about Tesoro before I might have to try one myself sometime  Good find slingshot, nothing like finding jewelry especially nice jewelry. Steve.

what?....what was that?.....what did you just say?.....alright...that's enough!.....one more word and i'm going to get one! just try me!!!

The Compadre is what made me sell my XLT e series when I started detecting. I thought more was better to start off with and it almost discouraged me to the point of just walking away from the hobby til I tried the super light/cheap Compadre. The xlt was/is a good detector, but starting the hobby with all the bells and whistles can/ does drive folks from the hobby..... with all the overwhelming adjustments and such. Not so with the Compadre, I found so many dimes my first weekend out with the Compadre it was crazy. The best discrimination of all the units I think . They all have their sweet spots on the discrimination knob.... you just have to find it and mark it.

You won't regret anything-but you will find EVERYTHING with it-even the CORNERS of a peice of foil.:stars:

Whenever someone finds out I detect and wants to get into the hobby and asks what machine they should get, the only 2 units ( out or ALL brands out there ) I recommend are the Compadre or Silver uMax.

I have turned 3 new hunters onto them and they are happier than pigs in mud digging coins and jewelry with them.

finding the corners of foil is par for the course for me...it's easier for me (simple minded and all) to dig a signal than to try to figure out if the meter is accurate or stoned again. i have an ace 250 that was my first and the only thing regularly accurate on it is the depth meter so when my wife goes with she wants me to use the ace because she prefers to dig and who am i to argue with that. all i do is find targets and place a bamboo skewer to mark the spot and she follows with a garrett propointer and screwdriver a "pops" them out. but i also got a vaquero (still learning it) that i use when it's just me and i dig everything....if there's one terrible thing the ace 250 taught me is that i've passed up RINGS (that the meter said was anything from iron to foil) that i later dug up with the vaquero. i don't know the "language" of the vaquero yet so i dig it all but i've found a lot more jewelry (and a truck load of junk) than i ever did with the ace. the compadre sounds EASY and FAST!

It is. And of course I set it between iron and foil whenever in certain spots. And to show I'm not biased, I use my Ace 250 w/sniper coil in the trash bins (tab infested sites.) It's a dynamite combo. But the Ace and many other detectors are just unable, even in a/m mode to find small gold chains. That's all I'm saying-it's just a better gold detector.

Do you want to know why the Compadre performs so well? Simple logic. You only have the one knob to worry about, no other bells or whistles. Nothing to distract you. Since you are not otherwise distracted, you pay more attention to what the machine is telling you.

I'm sure there's some truth in that. Really, though, the Compadre is able to pick up fine gold chains where other detectors, some over 5 times the price of the Compadre, can't. The reason for this was explained by Monte a long time ago and I finally believed it, then bought one. It doesn't have the high-gain, low-noise circuitry and the disc level can approach levels lower than most machines with preset a/m modes. But Monte can explain it better than me-it's true and I have just experienced it first hand. Actually, my Ace doesn't distract me-it has it's own language. But the increase in the price of gold has sent me on a different path. Sure, the others find larger gold, too. But I can tell that the Compadre is finding stuff because not only does this feature allow finding smaller gold, but also lessens target masking. The "razor sharp" discrimination is amazing.

Thank you so much for the setting to block out small iron but still find the thin gold chains!

On the Internet I did read to set the Compadre to just the iron and foil breakpoint to be able to find thin gold chains but block out some junk. I didn't feel like spending time testing the settings to find out where the breakpoint is.

I'm very happy with the findings of my Tesoro Compadre and my findings are completely reveresed compared to my Bounty Hunter Prospector metal detector. :clapping:

I now will only use my Bounty Hunter Prospector metal detector to help teach attractive single girls how to treasure hunt with me. :inlove:

In tot lots I have been setting it to where the pointer just touches the "i" in "iron". Every once in a while it will find an iron bolt. Could not find a setting for attractive girls.:surrender:
