I have have used a Quattro, Safari and now a Sovereign for several months. Rick knows the Sovereign. I made a file of Rick's posts and put them into practice. I bought an Elite 550 meter and rescaled it to 180 as suggested and what difference it made. The meter is very stable and really locks on to targets. With his techniques of being in Disc mode, disc set at 0, notch off, going slow and listening for weak signals I have found deep silver and wheat cents. Also I can avoid the zinc pennies. Thank you Rick for speeding up my learning curve. Don

I am glad some of my tips have helped you get to know your Sovereign, you will learn more about it every time out with it too I have found out with some experience with it. The one thing I will say if you want some of the first wheaties and the IH pennies they will read like a zinc penny so any of those 176-177 reading on the 180 meter can be zinc or the older wheaties or IH so if I dont want the zincs i only dig the 176-177 readings that sound weaker and deeper. If in a construction where the ground has been scraped I would dig all the 176-177 and even the 170 on up that are weaker.

Good luck with your Sovereign and keep us informed on your finds.

Rick

Don I concur. Have a few pages of tips saved off that he's given over the years on the Sovereign line of machines, which have been a huge help in learning the Sovereign language.
