I also got the knob guard for the excal.

The Excal. and scoop fit in a lawn chair carrying bag so I can move around the Bahamas and not attract alot of attention, but not to worry I have a hard case to travel with.

Did you buy the black sifting basket with the holes already in it, or did you have to drill them yourself? I"m guessing that's a swim noodle that's attached to it.

Thanks,
OldeTymer

Up here in New England, we sometimes have to dig a little rock at our beaches. This stainless scoop really gets a good bite through the hard stuff; it's built like a tank too!

My advise to have stainless Steel Lip on these scoop.

Agreed Alex. A stainless steel tip makes the digging easier and the scoop last much longer. I had Bill put the SS tip on my 6" aluminium scoop when he made it for me and I am extremely pleased with it. Bill also made my scoop as a travel version and some suggested that a 6" scoop wouldn't last more than a month before it broke at the joint. I've had over 6 months of hunting and a trip to Mexico and back without so much as a wiggle at the connection.
Bill Babbs makes a darn fine scoop!

Cheers,

Olde Tymer, You are correct, swim noodle tied with plastic ties around plastic basket I got at Wal Mart. The Basket had the holes in the side , I drilled 1/2 in. holes in bottom. works great in fresh water, wants to flip over in (big) ocean waves but OK in Small ones. They have bigger and deeper baskets at Wal Mart. Total cost around $5.00 and about twenty minutes of my time.

I looked at the stainless, it looks longer from back to tip and it would not fit in my hard case with detector. I have mostly soft sand at all the places I hunt. I got the Travel scoop and I agree the connection point has SS bolts and no wiggle. All it needs now is some Gold in the bottom of it, and a little Ice would be nice.

Little big, but chops through the rocks especially after the sand has been ripped away.

Can you do a front, side and back shot of this scoop and post a picture? Also do you have measurements? I'm going to make one.
Thanks!

The builder (Kevin) is a great guy with a great product! He'll be making a travel version soon. Here's the eBay auction (link is below) that describes the scoop in detail. I tell you, it's built like a friggin tank, and the welds are beautiful. The price is a steal ($119 plus $12 shipping). I don't think it's worth the effort to duplicate at this price, but to each his own. Check out the link, it cuts great through packed clay and/or rocky bottoms.

That's great. I appreciate the additional picture, exactly what I need for fresh water.

Good Hunting,

And the best part, it's non-metallic, that means that if necessary you can use a Vibra-probe or other pinpointer to search through the rocks and sand. I picked up the same basket and noodle today from Walmart; total price - $3.89
