[size=large]i now have an AT PRO. what a great deal i got. tomorrow my hunting buddy starts lesson # 1. since he already has one and does well with it. he offered to show me the quirks as he knows them. one of those quirks has been finding rings and avoiding bottle caps.part of my ATP deal
with BBH ended up including a thick book by a fella name stephen moore titled "Relic Quest". right off the bat i encounter trouble in my little metal garden. i think it was caused by not having the plug fully seated. will see tomorrow. now i will be hunting in light rain with no worries. and if i can wade into shallow water with-out drowning myself i'll give that a try. { you'd think an old marine would know how to swim. that was 100 ibs. ago }
i been following this forum since the ATP came out so i have picked up some pointers already. now ready for " The Rest of The Story".

[size=large]thanks Jason. my hunting buddy is convinced i'm gunna want to sell all my other machines once i learn this one. i won't mind if he's right.

[size=large]it's gotten he doesn't have time to run a camera. even if he had one. he's always digging. :rofl:
i gotta say he's really quick with the understanding of these machines. i on the other hand am slow to understand some times. some of the hype confuses me until i get it straight.

WB,

Why an ATP, when you have a Minelabs SE Pro?

[size=large]faster swing and less confusion on targets.can't say anything bad on the ml.really need to giveit more time. trying to learn too many machines at once. the ATP is quicker to id so far. when you hit a qtr. the ATP rings out. no doubt. when you hit silver with the ml it also sings out. i also have an irritation with every coin being a @#&$% penny with ml. my hearing is real bad and i'm having trouble learning the sounds. so rely on vdi. with the ATP the bell tone really helps. until i am convinced of one or the other i keep em all. i was content with missing targets until my hunting buddy told me how many he collected behind me. maybe my coil just wasn't over them. 99.9% of my targets have been less than 5" down. all my machines should have picked up on them. so i gotta think it's more me than my machines.i'm in no rush. i figure i got nine yrs. left to figure it out. maybe less the way i'm falling apart.

Thanks for the feed back. I am pondering the ML Etrax/Safari/SE Pro, but at this time there is no clear indication that these hunts deeper than the AT Pro. What is clear from the demos I have seen is that ML has the filtering figured out and somehow they use multi frequency with just one antenna type(TX/RX of course). It seems that most of the manufactures have figured out how to get the single frequency detector to really perform, with software and wave analysis and faster computer. I just wanted to try one before I made the investment of for something as expensive as the ML. It is my understanding that the Teknetic Omega 8000 is another detector that seems to have no limits, and finds things like a time or penny at 13 or so inches. I did not get one because it operates at a lower frequency, and I have been told that this is a problem for ground penetration in my area, Greater Seattle. The soil here as where you are in Kelso, has minerals, from the volcanos ... we are on "The Ring Of Fire", here in the western part of the state.

My XLT, and the Garrett GTI 2500 both were not very deep, 4 to 6 inches on average and this came out after I graphed a months worth of finds from different places in the state, Moses Lake, Sun Lakes, Tri Cities, Bellingham, and Tacoma. Both of these detectors were < 7 kHZ. Other have had success here with the ML ETrax and the SE Pro. The Tesro Silver Saber found more silver coins that the two other combined. Anyway, the AT Pro seems to work there. I did talk with Garrett's, Teknetic's technical support before this purchase. Both of them said the their high frequency models would fair much better here, and both independently suggested I may want to hunt with a Gold machine all the time.

Anyway at the end of the the day the Fisher F75 and the Garrett AT Pro were their recommendations. I also had a Fisher CZ7. I really never had any real success with that at all.

I appreciate your time for the feed back. Do not fall into pieces, just keep'er running! BTW, the GTI was the most coin friendly machine unit the AT Pro.

Cheers,

A

[size=large]my mxt pro found my 1st and only ben franklin half at 8". came in very solid and clear. my next silver was a mer dime at 6" w/ ml. it had the 8x6 SEF coil. it also was clear and solid. haven't had the ATP but a week so no deep stuff for me yet. Kelso / longview area is very limited on parks and schools. unlike the seattle area. we have too many hunter per areas to hunt. don't know the ratio in the seattle area. got my daughter wanting me to visit and hunt for a day. trying to figure how and when. all that beach property and so many parks.
what volcano's? not that little burp in 81'? well lesson #2 comes tomorrow. nned to find deep targets to validfy the purchase of the detector.
found some promising places on google earth. will search as long as possible.i hear ya on the XLT. they are well known not to get much depth. and a small collection of coils.am contiplating selling mine. just can't bring myself yet. hoping the atp will be the best all around machine.
