I want to send out a big thanks to those of you who posted hints about operating the MXT. I had been a diehard fan of the White's 6DB , went through 3 of 'em, keeping them together with duct tape and glue! Until I realized I was probably missing a lot of deeper stuff that the new machines could reach so I popped for an MXT. I was beginning to get discouraged with it until I read in this forum about the tactic of using the Relics function for coinshooting. I went today to try it out at a very old homesite that I knew had been worked over very well over the years. I didn't get any coins but got a high pitch sound very close to the low pitch sound of an iron target and dug a really cool silver (?) coin button at 6 inches. That was enough to prove to me that was the way I wanted to hunt. I'll be back there soon with the small coil to root out the goodies and trying desperately to keep from swinging the coil!
