Somebody Emailed me with a couple of UK progs and all I know is his name is John. He said a couple of lads use these programs with great effect. One was for clear ground and one was for trashy. I punched the settings into the Explorer and went into the garden and BINGO the machine sounded like a detector and not a musical instrument.
So I slipped on my wellies and walked up the road to a horse paddock, which I had hunted out with my GTI + 12.5 coil to try the settings out. Well the machine was a joy to use I was knackered with digging and not swinging. I just could'nt believe the depth I was getting, but my holes were ugly as the pinpointing was'nt so accurate at depth, but I'm not complaining I can see some light at the end of the tunnel. I jumped in the deep end and someone had to dive in and rescue me, so whoever you are John Thanks for saving my sanity, now I can't wait to get out with my Explorer again..........

Sarah, you are not alone. Containing frustration is one of the first lessons to learn when you start using the Explorer. Then it disappears as you climb the learning curve and you get answers to questions from all the good people on this forum. As far as the holes go, they will get smaller as you perfect your pinpointing skills. Another big, big help would be the purchase of an X-1 pinpointer, it's a godsend. You can purchase a new one from the dealer or you can keep checking the classifieds here for a used one which is how I got mine. Now that you are digging good targets, how about posting some of your finds, we would all like to see what you are finding. Well, good luck and keep up the good work. OK thanks for the link, then what, go to where??? tks. Jim

Hi Jim
I dug a couple of old coppers this evening and I've nicked them with the digger they were 8-10 inches deep. I've never used a probe before can you give me some idea where in the cycle of detecting a signal, pinpointing it and digging it does the probe play its part ?
My guess is I have to take some soil off and if the signal is still in the hole use the probe to try and get a more accurate pinpoint, but I guess there is probes and probes and you have recommended the X1 for a reason.
Thanks for trying so hard to give me the link.

is below.
I just got mine but ironically, sent my detector in for service. At least I can stare at the X1 and wonder how well it works till I get my Exp back from the service center. Go to the Sunray detector electronics forum located here at findmall too for further questions.

you will get a page that shows all the coils and the x-1 probe

Hi all,I have been using the Sunray Pinpoint probe for about 3 months, now I dont know how I managed without it.
Over the years I have had a few machines and the only problem with the Explorer is its iffy pinpointing resulting in larger holes and possible damage of the goodies within.
Other than that it is the best machine I have ever used.
The probe has put an end to these problems having taken out a divot the probe will in most cases take me to the exact spot in the hole with a little waggeling.
If the find is deeper than the probe can handle and the general pinpointer confirms the item is still there take out another spit and use the probe again.
Often Iam getting items out at 12" to 20" inches deep using this method.
The only problem I have had is with the probe bracket and having E-Mailed Sunray they have put a replacement in the mail from the to the UK for me should be here any day now.(Not there fault though as there is a flaw in the moulding.
I hope this helps Sarah. Jerry.Bristol.UK.

Hi Jerry
I get the picture now, the X1 looks a bit on the costly side but they've started harvesting down here in Dorset so I'll soon be out amongest the Roman goodies. I'm gonna feel as sick as a pig if I mark one of them up with the digger. So I guess I'm gonna have to seriously consider it and soon.
Thanks again
HH Sarah

Sarah, I'm interested in the settings that made such a difference for you. I've been doing ok but always wondering if I'm missing something. would you mind sharing your new settings with me?
