The best metal detector is the one you want to use today. Nothing on God's green earth can touch that.

I am lucky to have most of those in my possesion.:)

HH,

Well TD I agree..as we get older we do get a little smarter. Whats that old saying A bird in hand worth two in the Bush !!

I think you pretty much figured that out for yourself. Age is a double edged sword. My wife says I have mellowed and have more patience now at my advanced age. Along with the aches, pains, and medications I finally began to understand that those things that can't be changed aren't really worth fretting about. They never were. Enjoyment, to me, is a personal thing. Darkness is coming to us all so we had better enjoy what light remains.

I have a number of different detectors and I'd be hard put to say which I like (overall) "best". They each have their strong and weak points so I make my choice by the type of hunting I'll be doing. For example I really like my Silver Sabre umax for competition hunts due to the light weight, the quick response/retune time and the near turn on and go simplicity. If I'm going where mineralization is difficult I like my Eldorado for the same reasons, but also because it has the manual ground balance feature. I have a competitors target ID machine that I like to use in parks and yards as the ID helps determine whether a target is a goody before I disturb the grass which I try to do as cleanly as possible. They all are capable detectors and their uses overlap, but whichever is in my hands at the time is currently the "best".
