I am blessed. White's Electronics has replaced my MX Sport with a new machine! After six months of use, primarily heavy water useage, in all types of water conditions (except salt water), in Northern Michigan, the shaft started becoming lose and apparently the main shaft broke on the inside of the handgrip area. I first thought it was just the screws needing to be tightened, but after some time, realized there was something seriously wrong. White's spokeperson, tboykin, referred to me as a "power user" and I guess that would be the truth because most of my useage is in the water, almost daily, and often for hours at a time. I just want to apoogize to tboykin for being quite hard on him on the forum a few months back. I'm very thankful that White's honored this warranty. Here are the reasons why I believe it broke: I did use it heavily in water and I used the 13" coil a lot. The shaft broke where I was hanging on to it. If you take a 6" piece of coat hanger and you want to break it in half, you bend it back and forth. The break will almost always occur right where you are hanging on to it. It will get warm with friction, and it will eventually weaken and break. I believe the extensive use in water, although it is designed for this, with the larger coil that they make for the MX Sport, caused fatigue on the shaft. I wasn't swinging this like a weed whacker, nor was I bouncing it off of rocks. We all know water drag is considerably more resistent than air, so things slow down anyways, including the swing of the detector. There may also have been a small fracture in the shaft to begin with, but that is unknown. To be honest with you, I used the MX Sport just like I had used my AT Pro in the water and I never had any problems with the ATPro, but the AT Pro shaft appears to be of a heavier construction. I think I have come to the conclusion, that the integrity and durability of different metal detectors varies depending upon use and coil size. Once I took the advice of other Whites users, I would like to say that I had no problem with the electronics. They're excellent and far superior to the AT Pro in both depth and sensitivity. I found a lot of gold jewelry, both small and large. . I would recommend this machine to anyone, but I would also tell them it's a sensitive deep seeking sweenie but! Slow way down in deeper water with waves or current if using the 13" coil . Thank you again White's Electronics . Waterhound
