Well today was pretty special for me. Weather turned out real freat and most of the snow and ice are gone! We left this morning with the intention of detecting the same place as last week. But on the way there, we decided to check on a place we discovered last week but couldn't hunt because it was frozen solid.
we asked permission and we were quite pleased to have a nice beach to detect instead of beating last week's 2 feet waves.
For starters, i wasn't too thrilled because my Tiger shark will need an other trip to the factory to be reapired again... :( I have 3 coils and none seems to be okay 100% and they all create false signals, even with my StingrayII.
So that ment i had to rely on my back up... the Detector pro. It's not a bad machine, it's just that i'm so good with the tiger, i was afraid to miss on some signals. Will the detector pro sniff the small gold like the tiger ??? Well i must admit now, after a good 5 hours of continuous hunt... that the detector pro can sniff small objects pretty well too. I just needed to know the machine a little more.
Second bad news of the day, i wasn't in the water for 5 minutes that i realised i had a big leak on my gloves. Looked closely and discovered that my detector pro arm cut is a bit too sharp and that created a tear on the arm... grrr that ment i could only detect on shallow water untill the dinner break.
There was a moment i really felt bad. Had frozen water on the gloves, a small leak on my wadders and a new detector to break in. Plus luke had his first gold and all I had were a bunch of coins. As usual, my fingers were frozen when we broke for lunch.
I baught duck tape and fixed my long gloves. Had a good meal and went back in the water. For some reason, my fingers need to get almost frozen and heat back again to be confortable after that. I didn't felt cold on my hands after that and the duck tape held good.
That beach wasn't detected at all ! We had signals everywhere but the bottom is solid sand almost like silt... a good thing after all, we were working like horses and didn't felt the cold at all.
It was about 3 o clock when i got a deep signal... took me 5 to 7 scoops to finally get my gold of the day. And a pretty nice one at it!
A 7,6 grams 10K ring with a real diamond. Plus, the ring has my initials ML!
After that, i was really happy and started to take some risks... going deeper and deeper. A few times i went a little too deep and some water rushed in a bit. Both my feet were wet. I had good thermal socks, but when we called it a day, my feet were hurting a bit.
So many coins ! So many signals left behind ! The silver ring was found just before i got out of the water. I said... ohh just a last signal and there it was.
Will we be able to hunt again this season ? I dont know but today was really a great day!
