Texas soil

snoop & scoop

New member
A question for any Texas hunter. I took my new Cibola out for the 1st time today in my front yard. I found 2 hot wheels a crushed Pepsi can a budweiser beer bottle cap 6 pull tabs and 2 pennys. My question is this is the Texas soil very corrosive? the 2 pennys were clad, but were so corroded I couldnt make out anything. The edges were eaten away. I moved here 2 yrs ago and am not familiar with soil conditions..I live just outside Austin. Thanks

not from texas but the zinc pennies do that every where. really corrode bad on a salt water beach.

... and anywhere that gets fertilized like gardens, sports fields, yards ... the new zinc based pennies (newer than 1982) get eaten up pretty quickly.

Yes, have found lots of corroded zinc pennies here in Texas. Don't know who long it takes to corrode. Banks or businesses won't take them.
