Texas, Kentucky hunt. Best day since the 70's

Let me apologize but no pictures. I took vacation and traveled with my bride while she worked as a soldier. We went to Houston for 3 days and Louisville for 2. After listening to your suggestions I tried Memorial Park in Houston but was asked to leave 15 minutes after I started because of the antiquity act. The bell hop at the motel suggested detecting around Waugh Heights. I detected at only 1 park and I found my first Indian (1879) ever, 1 buffalo, 3 barbers (1901, 1902, 1903), 2 mercs and a 1912 Belgium penny that is maybe 10% smaller than our dime and 22 wheaties. I also found 9 slugs from several different caliber pistols. I hated to leave but off to KY. Saturday was the best day since 1973/74. At a school that I had detected last year I found 3 mercs, 1 silver quarter, 2 silver rings and 26 wheaties. Sunday was short and I found 5 more wheaties along with 4 more pistol slugs. I purchased my se last year in May and stopped using it in Sept. I found 22 or 23 silvers and a little over 100 wheaties. I wasn't frustrated but after reading all your helpful hints I new I could do better so I decided to review hundreds and hundreds of your comments last winter and listen to you guys. Last year I wouldn't dig the iffy signals. I usually used digital and dug the true pure coin readings. What a mistake. I dug the Indian, buffalo and barber in the same whole. I never would have dug that plug last year. I have dug over 25 coins this year that were deeper than anything I dug all last year. Thank you guys for all time and expertise you express on this site. I can't wait for WI frozen tundra to thaw out. PJ

First off, Memorial park is open to hunting and is probably the most hunted park in Houston. Whoever told you to leave, should have....well, left.

However, I'm curious if you know the name of the second park you found the goodies at, or whereabout it is located? Could you PM me please? I've been hunting Houston for over 3 years now and have yet to find a park that could produce so much. I'd love to give it a shot!

Im with bazooka I would like to know wich park in houston did that well cause in 23 years i havent found that much in one park in houston. Spill the info man :poke: lol

Enjoy yourself PJ you are doing just fine. Tell every one where you are detecting then you will lose out on your virgin detecting grounds. Hard to come by these days good detecting grounds. My advice to you is to keep the location to yourself and cherish the finds you make.

The oldest coin I detected with the Explorer Professional was a Calpurnius Piso Denarius 67 BC. The coin popped up at Portsdown Hill near Portmouth UK. Odd 'cause the main Roman invasion was about 100 years later.

Franky

I hunted Memorial Park for almost 3 hours in 3 different sections, out in some open areas this morning with no problems. Had 2 police cars stop and watch for a few minutes, and some park department trucks stop and watch me. Nobody approached me or told me to leave.

The park has had metal detector users hunting it since the 1970's with no problems, (that I know of).

PJ, Whoever told you to leave, was wrong.

Total agreement with Franky! You do not owe anyone the location of a prime spot. File it in your 'places to go' file and cherish it.

Or....you can learn the hard way. A few years ago I let myself be talked into taking a guy to one of my 'hot-spots'. Within a month, everyone he knew....hell , even his wife's ex-husband was detecting my spot. I think the guy was probably a Democrat....definitely 'sharing my wealth'.

Do what you want to do......but don't be stupid

I have nothing to hide on the park I detected at in Houston. I live in WI but took a week of vacation to go metal detecting while my bride was defending the country in Houston. I do not know the name but can tell you where it is located. I took Waugh Heights to 11th street. Turned right on 11th street and after about 5 -6 blocks 11th street becomes Pecoro. I took Pecoro about 2-3 blocks and turned left on Watson. Went 2-3 blocks and the park is right there on your left. Good everybody. If you go there drop me a email and tell what I missed. PJ
