I will be visiting the Denton and Houston area at the end of the month and I was wondering if there are any restrictions for detecting city, county or state parks. Any other restrictions would be appreciated. Thank you. PJ

I think you can't hunt any city parks?? Schools are ok I think. It can be a tuff place so watch your step there.

I live about 40 miles from houston and i think the only parks you cant hunt are precinct #4 parks. And most parks outside the county are free game. I cant speak for Denton but stay away from state parks they will take your detector and fine you. Good luck.

As the previous Poster said, Preceinct 4 Parks in the Houston area are off limits, the rest of the City Parks are open to hunting. Memorial Park just outside of downtown is one of the Locals favorites, was a Military Training Post in 1917-18,Lots of goodies found in the woods there. I believe Denton City Parks are ok to hunt in also.

Johny, rbholt80 and dirtfishing. Thanks for your replies. I will use your suggestions. Any parts of Houston that I should stay clear of. PJ

Well there are places i dont go but I just use my eyes. If it looks like its uninviting as far as the locals in the area then I stay away from it. Houston is like any city it has its good and its bad. I cant think of any other places that i would stay away from. I will tell you how the trespassing thing works in texas. Ok if their is a sign up of any kind saying private property or no trespassing then stay off. Here is another that a lot of people dont know. If there is purple paint or a purple ring on threes or poles then that means the same as posted or private property. If the place your hunting is not marked then you take your chance but on unmarked land the owner or the police have to run you off and that is your warning from them, the next time they catch you on that land you go to jail or you get a fine or both.
If your out someplace and someone tells you to leave or any other warning of any kind then dont fuss or get mad just nicely go on your way no matter if it public property or not.

There are still a few old timers out in the country like were i live that will fire there gun to give you a warning. If your heir that followed by a shout that means get the heck out of there as fast as you can lol. Its happened to me once and trust me you never think about going back to that spot even if there were gold coins popping out of every hole you were digging.

Just keep a low profile when your out. Dont draw any attention to yourself even if its ok to be there. Out of sight out of mind kinda thing. thats how i do it but maybe someone else will chime in and give there advise.
