Texas Calvary recruiting camp?

I am researching a Texas Calvary camp that mustered 1000 men in to the army in 1862. I have not found the exact location of the camp yet but I am doing the research. I have two questions.
#1. How far from drinkable water would the camp likely be?
#2What type of artifacts am I likely to find? I have seen pictures of Texas Calvary solders from later in the war wearing what looked like civilian clothes. Did they issue Confederate
uniforms early in the war (1862)? I would love to find a button. I have found bullets before but never found any buttons. Thanks for you guidance..

Thanks guy... I have never hunted a camp before and I am not sure just what to expect. Next big task is for me to locate the exact location... That will take a little more research...
