Went to a neighboring beach comunity that I have not been to in many years. My Dad would take me swimming there when I was a kid, so it brought back memories. There have been some changes but is still recognizable. The old casino is still there and remains a popular spot for many local dances and parties. A tot lot has been added which is something for a future hunt. Since it was off season and during the week there were very few people around.
Decided to have lunch first at nice restaurant across the street and the reasonably priced blackened Grouper sandwich platter made a good start to the days outing. The V ground balanced perfectly over the sand as soon as I turned it on, which was surprising. Met a couple of nice folks who took an interest in what I was doing and I had a nice conversation with one about the SS Central America and the SS Republic. It was nice to meet someone with an interest in the subject.
I started between the driveway of the casino and the the volley ball court and only recovered trash. I did get a lot of false signals though. However, I finally figure out that if I simply brushed the sand around some with my foot before digging they would disappear. A neat trick learned to be sure. I alway made sure to rescan thoroughly to make sure I did not kick away anything good. My good finds came around the benches and I ended up with $1.22 in my pouch at the end of the day which included two spills, one 35 cents and another 45 cents. I only had time to search a couple of the benches so there are still plenty of good targets I'm sure, along with the requsite trash. Since I consider this enormous sum to be a good day, for me anyway, I decided to go back an celebrate wih ice cream for dessert. This was my most enjoyable hunt so far and definitely a site I will visit frequently.
