Hello E-tracers!
I got the 6x8 SEF coil in October and have used it sporadically. Now that I have had the opportunity to hit all the public spots in my hometown once or twice with the Pro coil and a cherry pickin' pattern, I have plugged in the 6x8 and changed to a more open pattern. All of these locations are very trashy with lots of iron, steel bottle caps, pull tabs, and can slaw. I opened up the standard E-Trac coin pattern from Fe 5 through 27 and rejected out CO 1-3 and 50 lines. I ran sensitivity in manual, and usually kept it at 25 or 26, depending on the EMI in a few spots. I pulled six silver dimes, one sterling and gold ring, wheats, and lots of clad in areas that I have swept before.
This time, I hunted at a crawl. The 6x8 SEF worked wonders at separating the goodies from the junk in the hole. One of the Barber dimes I found was less than 1/4 inch away from a bent, rusted nail (it gave a 24-43 target I.D.). The little SEF went deep too - one Mercury dime was 7" AND dug right under a power line. Very impressive.
I have only been swinging the E-Trac since Labor Day, and feel I still have many more hours to go toward mastering the machine. I think the recent finds in already-hunted areas are probably due to a combination of increased experience with the machine, the open pattern, and the 6x8 SEF's better target separation abilities. I am really enjoying the SEF coil, and I can echo the testaments of other users who say it rocks in trashy areas.
I have included a link to a video of my finds on Youtube.
