Testing open pattern and 6x8 SEF coil

Hello E-tracers!

I got the 6x8 SEF coil in October and have used it sporadically. Now that I have had the opportunity to hit all the public spots in my hometown once or twice with the Pro coil and a cherry pickin' pattern, I have plugged in the 6x8 and changed to a more open pattern. All of these locations are very trashy with lots of iron, steel bottle caps, pull tabs, and can slaw. I opened up the standard E-Trac coin pattern from Fe 5 through 27 and rejected out CO 1-3 and 50 lines. I ran sensitivity in manual, and usually kept it at 25 or 26, depending on the EMI in a few spots. I pulled six silver dimes, one sterling and gold ring, wheats, and lots of clad in areas that I have swept before.

This time, I hunted at a crawl. The 6x8 SEF worked wonders at separating the goodies from the junk in the hole. One of the Barber dimes I found was less than 1/4 inch away from a bent, rusted nail (it gave a 24-43 target I.D.). The little SEF went deep too - one Mercury dime was 7" AND dug right under a power line. Very impressive.

I have only been swinging the E-Trac since Labor Day, and feel I still have many more hours to go toward mastering the machine. I think the recent finds in already-hunted areas are probably due to a combination of increased experience with the machine, the open pattern, and the 6x8 SEF's better target separation abilities. I am really enjoying the SEF coil, and I can echo the testaments of other users who say it rocks in trashy areas.

I have included a link to a video of my finds on Youtube.

Great Finds Video

What area of the country are you? You found an amazing amount of Silver from a Public Park!
We have alot of MDers here, and I'm thrilled if I find one silver in a Public Park these days

We just got the sef 6x8 coil and I cannot wait until we can have a proper go at it
What detector did you have before?

I hope to see more of your finds and video's soon

Congrats and HH

Nice finds. Looking forward to some more of your videos....And yes we want to see the display and sounds and digs too........;o)

@ banditicey -- I am from the middle part of Missouri (near Bill_S). All the public spots here have been hit before, and some even with E-Tracs. Even still, good finds can be regularly found with a slow and patient swing of the E-Trac. My previous detector was a BH Discovery 3300, which I still have as a backup. It was a good machine to get me into the hobby. From reading the forums, I think you used to have a BH 3300 as well??

Bill - do you use a tripod setup when you film? I am looking into getting a Sony digital cam with tripod. I tried having my daughter hold the phone while I dig, but at 14 months old, all she wants to do is eat the Blackberry ;)

Yes I use a Targus TG-42TT Tripod. Its a real inexpensive one but the legs fold up easily when not filming. I use a Flip ultra HD video camera. I will attatch a picture for you......As you can see it gets dirty.....;o)

I had a White's DFX
Used for back up until a recent additional ET was purchased
We are putting the DFX's up for sale soon

I have found a Barber dime in a public park here and of course mercs and rosey's and Washington's
The Husband has found Standing Liberties and Walking Liberties also in an old public Park

Sorry about the wishful tone but it has been really lean lately and then again i am still detecting in December and that is GREAT

FYI your comment about your daughter made me and my daughter(age 20) laugh out loud

Regards and HH
