testbeding different coils all day

Of all the coil combos I ran today, the Lobo Super Traq with the 12"x10" Wide-scan was the most surprising... clean tones, deep, stable, ...the rig was a little heavy, but easy to swing and covered a lot of ground... the way it swings has a nice feel to it to me... I think I will run it like that for a while. I ran the 10" elliptical wide-scan. football rig on the Vaquero and wasn't thrilled with what I saw... it did seem to cover ground fairly well, but wasn't deep at all, over all i liked the feel of it and the elongated coil did work it way into the tight spots well..... I tried and old Tesoro 7" concentric on the B2µM, and it seemed to work well, but no better than the *" Brown donut coil that came on the B2µM there is no weight advantage either way, because the 7" is and older style and thicker... Looking forward to trying the clean sweep on the B2µM in a few days. The best coil I have found fro the Vaquero is the stock 9"x8" concentric... I ran the T2 today also, the 5" coil is killer on the T2 classic. I spent all day working on sweep speed. trying to see how different detectors, coils and types of coils work at different speeds... I learned a lot today. Swinging the right coil at the right speed can give some very good info about target.... It was cool to hit the sweet spot on each coil and compare them to one another, on known targets. ... really had fun with the Lobo Super Traq today though.

I also liked everything about the Lobo Super Traq, except for the preset ground balance in disc mode.

I am running the Tejon now and my favorite 2 coils are the 5.75" concentric and the 11x8 WS.

6" Concentric and new 8X11 RSD DD, but mine get their workout on a Vaquero instead of the Tejón. I found the Vaquero with that DD coil to easily out-perform the Tejón when I happen to encounter a dense iron nail infested site. Honestly, I was quite surprised! Never been a big Tejón fan after the first three I had and compared when I was a Tesoro Dealer. The one feature it has that I wish more detectors offered is the variable Tone Pitch adjustment or optional VCO audio selector. I sent my new Vaquero to Az. to get the high-tone mod. It's not as high as my Bandido II microMAX or Silver Sabre microMAX, but it's much better than the low-tone it came with.

I generally (depending upon the particular size and shape of the coil and the detector circuitry design the coils are mounted to) don't care for DD coils or larger-size DD coils, and while the Tesoro depth-of-detection isn't overly impressive compared with the rest of my Regular-Use Detector Team with comparably-sized coils, it does what I expect a good Tesoro to do for those occasional applications I mount that coil for. The 6" Concentric lives on my Vaquero and the 8X11 is on a spare lower rod for quick in-the-field changes.

I totally agree about the T2 with the 5'' coil being a deadly combination, the depth from such a small coil certainly is a eye opener,of course the down side is the ground coverage, but then one uses each coil accordingly to the detecting situation that you are on at the current time.I use the small 5'' coil on a ultra trashy roman site and also use the 4'' small Tesoro coil as well.

The new 11x8 Tesoro coil that sits in the cupboard gathering dust and have only used it a coup[le of times on my UK version of the Vauqero, the coil that stays on that machine is the NEL Snake and that combination will only come out too play after harvest time when the stubble is still very stiff one can then get in between the stubble rows.

One of my other favourite combinations is the T2 with the NEL Sharpshooter coil on,that is a really nice coil and is not all that less depth wise than the stock coil, but i feel its sharper on target separation, but one little thing that i find that makes it a pleasure to use is the fact that the Sharpshooter coil is mounted in the middle of the coil rather than at the rear of the coil like the stock coil, only a small difference but it does make the overall detector/coil feel so much better balance wise.

is the T2 5" coil smaller than 5" like the GBP ? mine is a pinger on the F19 for sure :bouncy:

opp's Tesoro forum I also have the 4" mono its the teacher that's what I call it teaches me to slow down and listen

@AJ,almost certain that both those 5'' coils use exactly the same coil case and a 'pinger for sure,as i understand it the 5'' coil from NEL cannot recall the name could be even hotter than the FT one,but i cannot confirm that one as i have never used the NEL one.

I must admit i really like using the 4'' Tesoro coil i bought it years ago for 'Mudlarking' rivers for my Silver Sabre11 as the small 4'' Tesoro coil on a old Tesoro is the machine of choice for Mudlarking the Thames, its the most used coil for the high trash mudbanks and almost all Larkers use them.

the best all about around combination so far for me has been the Vaquero /5.75" con.. its right there with the T2/5"... i still want to try the 5.75"con on the LST...... wish i had both the 7" and 4" concentric for the Tesoro... i opted for a clean sweep, but the with the heavy brush thick woods, i can see where a 4" might be great for old house sites...

thanks Mega they are under 5" I had the NEL sold it EMI and didn't like wet grass but I am a fussy bastard :sleepy:

that would be fun looking in the low tide banks amazing amount of history there we have nothing that comes even close only old stuff here is gold nuggets but ya gotta go outback to find those

Great info! I came pokin' round today looking exactly for this info....the 12x10 on the Lobo Super Traq. Thanks! :)

I would have to agree....A Gold detector for g0ld jewelry "not nuggets " for park hunting ! Some day...Open up that lower conductive resolution.

I have also found the 5.75 concentric as being the best coil for the Vaquero. Mine never comes off. I have found that the high tone Vaquero with that coil to be my favorite Tesoro to use and the one I grab first except my Mojave which is located on my atv for scouting new areass. I do use the 8 x 11 rsd on my Vaq and Tejon for large open school yards for search u ng for gold though and find that combination excellent for that type of hunting.

I love the Good Ole' 8" Brown donut on My Golden.
This coil in My Mild Ground will hit 9" Coins all day long.
I do have a Hot Golden too.
