Test picture of "Sadie" ............

We finally have a sunny day and I wanted to test my latest vintage lens that I purchased on eBay. a Sigma "Zoom Master" 35-70mm F2.8 lens with a built-in Macro provision for close up pictures. This lens was probably manufactured in the late 1960's or early 1970's, and is in mint condition, and appears that it is well worth the twenty-five dollars I paid for it. I took several pictures of my dog "Sadie" in the back yard, which was in the shade at the time I took the pictures. I mounted this lens to my Sony NEX-6 camera and used the following settings: F11, 1/30, ISO 800, "Daylight" white balance, Manual Focus, Manual Mode. I was surprised that the picture did not have much noise from having to use the ISO 800 setting, but I did notice that in my opinion, the picture is a tab on the "soft" side. I used no sharpening when I edited the picture. At this time I think that this lens might be a keeper, but I really will not know for sure until it is tested out in the field. Kelley (Texas) :)

Off and on... Have a great collection of the old large format film cameras! Lol... And a fairly new Mikon, but go in and out of intensity with different hobbies. Right now concentrating on figuring out all the old buried things on my small farm when not working. So mainly iPhone pics now. I've had a Go Pro, but mainly use it on the dash.

I think the expression on Sadie's face is what makes the picture.......i'd love to know what she was thinking......perhaps a caption competition is needed.
Well, you've gone and done it for me,i had a lovely old pentax manual focus 50mm f1.7 lens that just needed a digital body so I just bought a used pentax k5 to use with it.I'm going out today with it to see what sort of results I can achieve......hopefully i'll get good results like you are getting with your vintage lenses.......if not you can foot the bill for the camera lol.
Joking aside, some of these old lenses are capable of better results than the new ones, especially the new kit lenses that are supplied with modern digital cameras which can fall a bit short on image quality. Some of the old prime lenses are really special such as ones from pentax and the olympus "zuiko" range of lenses.A prime lens will always give better image quality than a zoom so they are really worth a try.
Thanks for the inspiration to go and try the old lenses again.

I have always been told that a prime lens will often give better image quality than a zoom lens, but I have gotten some great pictures with some zoom lenses that I have owned over the years.

Your old pentax manual focus 50mm f1.7 lens is a classic and you are going to produce some great pictures using it, sharp with lots of color. I hope that you will share a few pictures taken with this old classic lens.

Will you be taking any pictures at old historical sites? Birds and other wildlife? I really look forward to seeing the pictures you take with your new camera, especially if you take them with some vintage lenses.

You will find that many of the vintage lenses will produce great pictures, often as good as the modern high priced lenses in the market place. The vintage lenses take a tab more work using them because they are manual operated, but over time that will not be a problem, using them will become second nature. You are going to have fun! Kelley (Texas) :)

Cheers Kelly,i'll post some up as soon as i've got some shots with the lens.Did a few test shots today and was more than pleased.Like you say,the colour rendition of these lenses is something to behold....the colours are so rich which seems to be missing from a lot of the modern lenses unless you spend a lot of money.

outstanding pictures that will amaze you with the sharpness and rich colors. Don't ever sell that lens, you will regret it if you do! I am happy for you because with that camera and lens, and some wet saddle blankets, like I said you will be amazed at the pictures that you produce. Kelley (Texas) :)

I love Sadie! Yeah, I'm a sucker for dogs and specially if they're well behaved and have personality. I can see Sadie fills that bill for sure. She's so very pretty and looks to be quite opinionated too. Love her expression...........I've seen that look far too many times with our two Boxers.

Love the photo quality also. Thanks for sharing your girl with us.
