Test hunt

The more I tweak, the more impressed I get with the CTX. The ground is getting pretty darned dry again and the one inch of rain that we got last week allowed a little bit of hunting but it is drying back out again. I let a lot of targets go but I did want to dig the real deep targets and I popped the surface clad with a screwdriver. I found my 12th IH with the CTX which blows my mind because all of them has been around 8-9 inches deep. I have found targets at that depth before but never consistently. This is what I found for a few hours of hunting over the weekend.

This is the pattern that I have tweaked as much as I think I want to go with it. It is a minimum discrimination pattern with most of the iron and foil rejected yet I get very good depth with it. This is the one I will be coin hunting with in fairly clean parks that have been hunted to death with other machines......

thanks for the report Larry i haven't loaded the pattern yet but will do it now so i have it in there and dig those deep ones for you :wiggle: hope you get some rain soon

Hey, that's great Larry. Congrats! You must have some nice soil for digging. Digging deep targets in this Texas heat and dry soil is draining. Using the Sampson helps but often even standing on it with two feet and jumping up and down, which isn't easy and I weigh 200 lbs., doesn't work.. I got a few deep signals in a park hunt Saturday morning but I can't afford one of those gas powered jackhammers on ebay.

So I see from your pattern you are wanting to dig lots of the 30,40 sections.I am confused. What is your indicator for thinking coin? I am currenty hunting with (gonehunting's Pattern) combined tones ferrous line at 24. I target lots of 33-?? all day and walk away. Its easy to dig on the beach so I will dig some to see. I am new to the this type of TDI with two sets of numbers. So any additional help would be great.
Thanks BCNJ

This is why he has it set up the way he does. Its actually a set up for european coins but you can see and compare to his set up. maybe if someone has a picture with US coins they could post that one. its pretty much the same but adding silver into the mix in the upper right corner. i hope this helps explain the smart find a bit. HH

Here in the Midwest, Indian Head cents come in at CO 33-34 and I have dug 12 of them with the CTX, so yep, I like the low 30's signals. I like to dig the non coin targets in that area as well especially if they are deep. Lots of interesting targets in the low 30's like large gold and small silver rings.

Here is a chart for US coins, very similar to European. It needs to be updated for the CTX that is slightly different, at least for me, I found this chart in the E-Trac forum but the general idea is most of the coins and jewelry are along the 12 line for those new to the line 12 ID system.

I use Combined Audio tuned to my liking, iron/foil low and coins high tone.

Hey Larry I was wondering since you dig alot of targets in the low 30's have you dug many steel bottle caps as I know from the E-trac that is the number area they like to hit. Thanks.

No, I haven't been having problems with crown tops rusty or not.....

Larry I loaded your settings that you have here and think I will be using them quit a lot. I tried them today at the local fairgrounds which is pretty trashy and needless to say I was impressed. Just wanted you to know there helping someone out.

Thanks Paul, I used it again today and that will be my main coin pattern, it does what I want it to do and it does get deeper than the standard coins pattern that I started out with. I was switching between the two patterns today on some deep targets and I was getting a lot better audio on the deeper targets with my pattern.

Great pattern Larry. It is similar to what I use but I have a smaller foil range as I have found 3 gold rings so far that hit between 12-06 to 12-09. I know you stated you coin hunt with your pattern and so gold is of no concern. I will load your pattern and give it a try. Thanks for sharing. I am sure your pattern will be a great one for many people and I will let you know how I get along with it. I dug a nickel today from 4 inches and it turned out to be an 1867 Shield Nickel. Didn't expect that one but I was surely pleasantly surprised. Thanks for sharing and HH -Marc

 I just thought I would leave some of that "seed gold" for you young un's to find. Congratulations on the Shield Marc, it has been a few years since I have found one of those but it is just a matter of time with the CTX, my nickle count is WAY up.

Larry - Nice to see you playing with the minimal disc patterns - which I know are popular in the UK. Since I find that some disc (thus far) seems to be better, I'm playing with running 28 on down disc, vs basically the same pattern as you are running. I am trying not to be logical in thinking that e.g. "Less disc is better" as I don't really know yet. I do wonder what is optimal.

I know you mentioned that you are getting better depth or better ID at depth with minimal disc - Have you compared patterns / modes on that? Unfortunately I have only done so in testing, need more real world targets.

Thanks,
Albert

I spent yesterday comparing the factory coins pattern with mine and for those who don't want to tinker with patterns, the factory's is very nice but I noticed a little cleaner, more solid audio on my pattern. I can only assume that I would get a little more depth as well but I didn't find any targets that were on the fringe of depth. What is more important to me is I get less falsing and less nulling which gives me a better guess at what I have under the coil without having to go to P2 (open screen).
