Test Garden tips???

Got these today at a coin show to make a test garden. Any tips or instructions? I plan on varying the depths and maybe throwing a rusty nail or pull tab in the holes with a couple. Question is how deep should I bury them? Should I angle them or flat? I should have done this with the ETrac when I got it last month. Better late than never I guess.

Very nice selection. I'd put 'em about 6" down and put some type of plastic lid (like off of a sour cream container) underneath to slow/stop some of the sinking. You might place one of the IH's on edge and maybe throw in a wheat cent flat and also on edge.

Throw a normal Jefferson nickel in as well, as that will/should be a different sound than the Buff.

Also, you want to make them at least 18" apart and make a "map" of selected area along with position of the coins. Yes, I would put in a nail and some pop tops too.

Clearing your spot of all signals prior to "planting your coin garden" is up to you. I would at least clear half of it of signal and plant some of the variety there. I wouldn't think you'd want it too trashed with iron, but I'm also of the opinion that having some original trashy signals will be more like simulating an actual hunt spot.

What you will find mainly is your optimum swing speed in Auto+3. Also, you will find that in Manual Sensitivity you will be able to crawl and hear the signal....you won't hear it as well in Auto unless your swing speed is faster (This is based on my experience and testing in my own garden).

NebTrac

By the way. If you can, put in a Pre-1940's type rusted pop bottle cap in there as well. I've always found those to come in with a classic nickel signal one way, but with High Fe numbers (ex. 17-13), then on the 90

I have coin garden and its useful! about 2 years old! Various from 4 to 8 inch deep. About 3 feet apart. I have a Mercury dime at 8 inch deep because this coin is small and at 8 inch deep is good test for my E-trac. Make note on each coin on air test so you know whats number of id target. Make sure that your lawn where you plan to plant a coin is CLEAN! No metal! Digging hole and measure it on ruler then put coin on flat bottom then cover it. Make note on where you put because you cant remember where is it in a year later or so. I always test my machine on coin garden to make sure that my machine able to contact all of it before I go out to hunt! You can plant a nail next of coin in few place, too!

great tips thanks
