Test Garden results

I buried 3 dimes today. One at 6", one at 8" and one at 10". With Sensitivity at 60 and Disc at 50. I heard absolutely nothing.
In all metal mode I heard the 6" and 8" targets very well. 10" was a stretch as I thought it would be. Today I did some more experimenting. I set Disc to 0 and Sens to 75. I got the 6" dime as a solid 8-9. So why doesn't the manual say that as depth increases the target Id gets confused? Presumably that is normal. I can see where all metal mode is much more desirable.
I alway do a fast grab GB before I start any detecting. I would say the Fisher manual needs a lot more information in it. It really sucks.

I think it can be the ground maytrix being dug and coins being planted. I think if you leave them in the ground and come back after a season you might get better results..I would not use a disc of 50 I would try say a dics of 6 and mono tone and a sens as high as you can go. Look at your numbers and see if you get a tone. Sometimes deep targets in Calif make you have to second guess what you are seeing and hearing. I have dug a lot of iffy targets that we good because the numbers would repeat on a silver reading.

You are so right! I believe the only people that could really understand the manual are the engineers that write them. Not enough
down to earth instructions for the layman. Only my two zincs. Dave

I don't know about Calif. soil, but I also feel signals of recently planted fairly deep coins will be iffy at best. The depth readings of the F 75 do reflect deeper depths then deeper coin size targets actually are, but I also know the F 75 will hit silver dimes at a true 9", so I don't have a problem with depth readings. Ok the Fe3O4 level in my garden is 0.03 which is not bad at all around here. I have seen it up to 0.3 in the parks around here.
I dug a couple more holes at 2" and 4" for two more dimes. Then I saw the thermometer and realized why I was sweating. It's 105 degrees. So I am taking refuge inside until the evening.
I agree that there may be funny results with no halos around the coins yet. They just aren't connected to the ground well yet. I marked the spots and will let my garden 'grow' some more.
I will confess that I found a couple big nails when I dug the holes. So there very well may be more messing with things. I can hear the dimes very nicely in all metal mode. I read in the manual where the visual display and the audio are processed separately. That's useful information. (pg 33 third paragraph)
Here is an example of a stupid thing in the manual. Look in the back under Coinshooting, pg 37. The first two paragraphs are ok. Kind of an intro. But the last two are just plain common sense and are not exclusive to coin shooting. 'Get the property owners permission and don't leave a mess.' (There, I did the two paragraphs in one sentence.) Some sample settings for coin shooting might be a nice thing to see. Or sample scenarios. I don't know, but something of substance for Pete's sake.
But all this testing is fun stuff and I am learning tons. Thanks for your comments and ideas.
