I like the 'modular bolt on' design for attaching a handle angle...why a fellow could get a few different tops depending...good pics, yes, somebody knows how to weld alright!

Mud hit it right on the head. That modular design is the ticket. One scoop with different heads. OUTSTANDING idea and design!!!

Not to keen on the idea of having to deal with ten screws to make sure there tight and not losing them on a hunt

Right about the ten screws, but the concept is incredible.

Yes, that concept is incredible...making a scoop of such design and out of titanium...now I'm thinking of a pop in removable sleeve with smaller holes for when a fellow is chasing splitshots or what might be an earring..something a guy can drop in quick and take out just as fast for those damn splitshots...anyway, after a few seasons water hunting, a guy appreciates a good scoop so much that the up front cost of something like this may be easy to justify...and I'm generally a real money conscience purchaser...its just that a scoop and all the associated right engineering, weight, etc...will really make or break a hunt or a season...that thing is one of those once in a lifetime purchases, and if a fellow intends to do this for a while, pro rated out it would be pennies a day! How much Max?

Nice to see somebody making something out of titanium other than worthless rings... i your idea about a slip in and out finer screen mud..

You can go ahead and start production on those scoops. Bootyhoundpa and me can keep you supplied with titanium rings. I will sell them to you extra cheap so you can melt them down and make scoops! I think Bootyhound is right, we finally found a use for those useless rings!

Wonder if he considered putting two braces on the sides of that handle where you could just adjust it to a different angle? Have a SS bolt in the bottom and a SS bolt at the top for adjustment rather than have to build the bracket for various angles.

You got that right, about making or breaking your hunt/season! I endured the summer with a scoop that I hate. It would have made hunting so much easier, and easier on me, if I had the correct scoop. And I sank close to a grand in this little hobby already...so another scoop, one I LIKE, is going to have to wait till next spring.

I like that concept Dewcon!

Or even if he fabbed up SS spacer bracket blocks that bolted under that handle bracket in various degrees, so a guy could get the basic rig, and maybe buy 2 other simple fabbed bracket wedges that bolt into the existing holes of the scoop, and then onto the handle bracket? I dont know, but like Dgruff just got done saying, after just one season water hunting, If a fellow is crazy enough or a glutton for punishment to give another season a go, the 'right scoop' can sure make all the difference between success and failure, or at least the difference between pain and comfort. Dont let anybody kid you new guys...water hunting is one TOUGH gig, and if you try to make your own scoop, or go cheap in this department, you will seriously fail big time! (Take it from a guy who's done both) this is one tool you gotta leave up to the experts!

I laugh when I think back to my own assessment of scoops when I was new at this..."I aint paying that kind of damn money for what is basically a shovel with holes in it" Boy did I learn the hard way! So any newbies reading this thread..take heed, do yourself a favor and listen up to these guys who hunt water...

Mud got that right! I also went the cheap route. There was no way in hell I was gonna pay that kind of money for a scoop, no way! I channeled my inner McGyver and made my own. When all was said and done I had about $60 dollars into it and it was one sweet setup. After using it the fourth time, I threw it in the garbage. I then purchased a T-Rex. Water detecting is hard enough with a good scoop. A piece of junk just makes it flat out miserable and back breaking. It's not easy street in the water. Add some current or waves and things only get tougher.

I learned the hard way too! It seems most of us do. If you are just getting into this, heed Mud's advice and buy a quality scoop. You have obviously spent a fair amount on a good water detector, don't skimp on the scoop!

Get the biggest and best scoop you can handle for water hunting. A lot of times in the surf with waves hitting you one chance is about all you get. Then recovery of a target gets really tough. I like the looks of that Titanium scoop and you can bet Max will give a good workout and a honest opinion of it. As far as an insert with smaller holes I have found the aluminum expanded metal gutter guard works well for me. It is easy to form to fit any of my scoops and has about 1/4 inch holes. Good video Max as always. HH :minelab:
