Been reading some negative posts on various forums, including this one, about Tesoro. I currently own 13 metal detectors. Some older, some newer, and 6 of those are Tesoros. They are my best performers, and have produced my best finds. Here's my list of Tesoros. What do you have?

From oldest to newest:

1. Tesoro Cutlass Umax
2. Tesoro Conquistador Umax
3. Tesoro Cortes
4. Tesoro Tejon
5. Tesoro Cibola
6. Tesoro Vaquero - my newest baby. Just picked it up from dealer today!

LOL,Bulletman, you ain't alone!! Maybe we qualify for forming a club or something and I am sure there are many more out there that share the same feelings, and have even more T''s. Altogether I have 15 machines, though having given my son (he is 49) the X5 I still have a heap of detectors, including 7 Tesoros(one an X2) hanging in my closet and wall. Most are older, 85 and later but all still kick butt machines that will run with most (if not all) the "big boys" whenever called on. Tejon, couple of Sidewinders, Inca, Compadre, GS II, Amigo II, X2, oops, that makes 8 T's, so that means there are probably even more surprizes waiting in the closet for me. HH, Charlie

A question for Bulletman:

What do you expect the Vaquero to do for you that the Tejon doesn't? In other words, what motivated you to buy the Vaquero?

Just curious,

Dan

Tesoro detectors are all that I will use now. I tried another 'high level' brand that everyone raved over and frankly, I'll stick with Tesoro. I get tired of long learning curves trying to figure out the language of the new models out there. And every year another company claims their technology is the best. Please. The simplicity, quick response/recovery, and depth of the Tesoros...they just plain work!

I feel bad I only have 2 detectors a DeLeon and the Cibola I ordered friday, sure do wish it would hurry up and get here :) Like most of ya'll I like the simpilicty of the tesoro's, their prices and life time warranty is a big plus also. Jimmie

Tesoro Royal Sabre for me,bought her new and still have it,cant seem to part with it imagine that lol.....Markmac

i have an older Eldorado, used by a pro, and an Amigo straight handle job, lite and my favorite. Great service from Tesoro on a damaged one. I even have their daddy! a C and G Wildcat. The C was Ray Crum, and the G the senior Gifford, Tesoro's founder. Simple affordable efficient great service here in Ga. A local Dealer, Ocmulgee Gun and Pawn Jones county, goes by Macon address. The owners are experts, avid hunters. looking forward to a beach machine next year! Wonder if they will ever go to a multi frequency unit and join that fray? The C n G will do salt according to the manual, next year gonna find out, but hope to have a Stingray or Tiger to back it up! One excentric friend with money had over 40 units at one time. The first tesoros new and unused, stored for the future. divorced, cleaned out. shame.

Dan B:

I purchased the Vaquero primarily to use in park hunting in lower trashy areas. Doing really well with the Cibola and cleansweep coil combination, and hitting some nice jewelry. I believe the V with manual ground balance will get a little more depth, as our ground is mid mineralized. I do believe the Tejon has a slight advantage over the V, with very small targets. I hunted a section of field once with the cibola, and later found multiple targets with the Tejon. Those targets were remnants of a silver beaded necklace, about 1mm in size. The necklace string busted and the beads flew everywhere. The Tejon found a bunch of them, and most of them were only about 1 inch deep.

One test that I just recently completed, was with a gold necklace. Multiple detectors were used, (other brands as well). The 14khz machines will pick up that necklace in air at about 3 inches. The Tejon will nearly double that distance. My DFX with iron disc only, will not even squeak on that chain! Also, I like to leave my detectors set up with different coils. Cibola - Cleansweep, V- stock coil for now, Cutlass with 9x12, Cortes - 5.5 coil. There are times when I will take 2 detectors with me. Cleaner ground calls for a beep and dig, and trashy ground calls for the Cortes and small coil. The Tejon is primarily used in farm ground hunting bullets and buttons.

There's probably not that much difference between the V and Tejon. The Tejon has the advantage with double discriminators, and maybe a slight increase in sensitivity to smaller targets. I just enjoy using them all, and experimenting with different coil combinations. I truly hope Tesoro survives in our economical environment. Would truly hate to have to hunt with something else!!!

Peace be with you

Hi Bulletman,

Thank you for taking the time to feed my curiosity. It sounds like your detecting strategy is well thought out.

I have a Tejon myself, and have used a Golden uMax and a Cortes in the past. I intend to get another Golden as it was an awesome machine and I regret selling it. It wasn't the deepest machine I've used but it was fun to use for coinshooting in parks and school yards.

I hope someday that Tesoro takes the notch and tones concept from the Golden, and adds it to the Tejon or Vaquero. That would be amazing!!
