i have a vaquero has a higher tone responce than standard,i like it.are the rest of the tesoro's the same as the standard compadre's.i.e,dull flat.i was thinking of buying another tesoro, but if they all sound like the standard compadre without modifications then i'll have to look elsewhere.i really like my vaquero it's easy to understand.i have no one here to talk too.i must go it alone and listen to what others advise on the forum. and another thing i've got four coils for my vaquero, duh! which one do i use today the 5.75 concentric ,the 5.75 widescan, the 8x9 standard or the 11 round widescan it's getting confusing.bye for now, blowfly,hh

I have an Amigo II which the Compadre replaced. Same detector, they just put the Amigo II into a MM housing. They sound exactly the same. My Bandido II MM sounds nothing like the Compadre. It has a much higher pitched tone. I have also use other older MM detectors that sounded like my Bandido.

Tejon and Sand Shark have user knob adjustable tone (pitch) on the beep or can run in VCO mode where it can get very lively, particularly on the Tejon.

Cibola and Vaquero can be had in normal (low tone) or high tone versions. I have a low tone Cibola and find it takes a little while to get reacquainted with it's nuances on the low tone if I have been using another detector with higher pitch tones. Many report liking the high tone on these two.

I do not have experience with most of the other Tesoros. Here is one of Monte's posts where he talks some about tone frequency of a couple of models. If you search you may find more.

Gerday Blowfly,
My DeLeon and Cibola have a high tone, while my Eldorado has a lower tone, but not too low. I prefer the tone on the Eldorado, but the Tone on the DeLeon reminds me of the tone my old Silver Sabre II had (higher), and maybe that is one reason I am fond of the DeLeon. I haven't heard the tone on a Compadre, so I cant compare it with the ones I do know. Sorry I cant be of more help.

hey sapper,i have a compadre and even tho it does find things,i hate the dull flat sound it produces when it finds something.two dollar coins in loose sand sometimes respond with such a low tone that only through perseverance that i find them.my vaquero with its high tone leaves little doubt with what i have found.i know their are people out there that swear by them.even my old silver sabre has a better sound and i don't want to leap into another tesoro if they're all low toned.not counting the deleon.bye for now .blowfly
